The tris(acetonitrile)dibromonitrosylrhenium(I) compound (1a) was obtained by reduction of the paramagnetic [NMe4](2)[Re(NO)Br-5] salt with Zn in MeCN. Subsequent reaction of 1a with THF produced the THF derivative [Re(NO)(THF)(MeCN)(2)Br-2] (1b). Reaction of 1b with PiPr(3), Pcy(3), or P(p-tolyl)(3) yielded bis(acetonitrile)-cis-dibromo(nitrosyl)-trans-bis(phosphine)rfienium complexes (R = iPr 2a, cy 2b, p-tolyl 2c). Treatment of 2a,b with excess NaBH4 produced the known borohydride complexes [Re(H)(eta(2)-BH4)(NO)(PR3)(2)] (R = iPr 3a, cy 3b). Replacement of the BH3 moiety of 3a,b in THF by ethylene (I bar) produced the dihydride complexes [Re(H)(2)(eta(2)-C2H4)(NO)(PR3)(2)] (4) (R = iPr a, cy b). Protonation of 4a,b with HBF4 center dot OEt2 afforded H-2 and the monohydrido tetrafluoroborato species [Re(H)(NO)(PR3)(2)(eta(2)-C2H4)(BF4)] (R = iPr 5a, cy 5b). X-ray diffraction studies were carried out on 1a, 2b,c, and 5b. Complexes 4a,b are catalytically active in olefin, imine, and ketone hydrogenations and in olefin and ketone hydrosilylations, as well as in the scrambling of H-2/D-2 to give HD under mild conditions.

Pseudotetrahedral Zn(ii)-(R or S)-dihalogen-salicylaldiminato complexes with ?- or Δ-chirality induction at-metal

Hadi Amiri Rudbari, Arezoo Saadati, Mahnaz Aryaeifar, Olivier Blacque, Isabel Correia, Mohammad Khairul Islam, Dennis Woschko, Christoph Janiak, Mohammed Enamullah

Summary: The experimental results suggest the preservation of chirality induced by S- or R-ligands at zinc in both solid and solution, with a tendency towards enantiomeric excess. Supramolecular packing analyses and Hirshfeld surface analyses support different types of intermolecular interactions, while comparison of experimental and simulated PXRD patterns shows a good match, confirming the phase purity of the samples.

Cooperative Weak Dispersive Interactions Actuate Catalysis in a Shape-Selective Abiological Racemase

Yujia Wang, Michel Rickhaus, Olivier Blacque, Kim K. Baldridge, Michal Juricek, Jay S. Siegel

Summary: A simple abiological host-guest system demonstrates racemase activity with catalytic rate enhancements of 10(4) without employing traditional functional groups. Cooperative weak interactions enhanced through shape-complementarity between the catalyst active site and the reaction transition state drive this activity, suggesting that shape selectivity arising from cooperative dispersive forces is sufficient for the emergence of a catalytic system with an enzyme-like thermodynamic profile.

A Multi-Functional Tool - Cyclopentadienyl Re and 99mTc Complex Synthesis on Highly Functionalised Arenes

Raphael Lengacher, Sandro Ott, Olivier Blacque, Henrik Braband, Roger Alberto

Summary: In this study, biologically relevant arenes ethyl salicylate and salicylic amide, as well as fluorescent coumarin and pyrene units, were functionalized with a cyclopentadiene unit. The Re and Tc-99m complexes of the modified coumarin and pyrene compounds were synthesized and characterized. Crystallization of the ligands resulted in [2+2] and [6+6] cycloadditions for the cyclopentadiene modified coumarin, with a proposed light-induced mechanism supported by DFT calculations.
