Summary: This study presents a method for maintaining the accuracy of sequences by using complementary ligand arrangements at the metal center to form discrete and ordered metallo-sequences. These metallo-sequences fold into defined conformations through π-π interactions between electron-rich and -poor aromatic regions.

Summary: The study showed that the presence of Cd(II) decreased the adsorption of SMZ due to hydrophilic site competition, while SMZ increased the adsorption of Cd(II) through bridging and electrostatic shielding effects. This inhibitory and synergistic effects were more pronounced in the binary system at a pH of 7.5, indicating a dynamic balance between them depending on the system, pH value, and concentration ratio. DFT results suggested that SMZ coordinated more easily with Cd(II) at sulfonyl oxygen and nitrogen sites, and the cationic bridge of Cd(II) with SMZ mainly occurred in the sequential system, with a complexation-decomplexation-complexation balance in the binary system.

Summary: A supramolecular organic material MA-IPA was prepared by low-temperature hydrothermal reaction, which showed good uranium affinity possibly due to the large amount of nitrogen and oxygen donors. The maximum sorption capacity of uranium on MA-IPA was found to be 317 mg g(-1) at pH 4.5, with a selectivity higher than 56% over other 10 co-existing metal cations. The outcome of this work can expand the application of supramolecular materials, especially in the separation of radionuclides and other metal cation from aqueous solution.

Summary: A new adsorbent, PVA/GO composite, was prepared and used for the removal of Sr2+ from aqueous solution. The unique architecture of PVA/GO significantly enhanced the adsorption capacity toward Sr2+ and conformed to pseudo second-order kinetic model, Langmuir model, and Freundlich model. The complexation interaction between Sr2+ and oxygen atoms/p-electron domain of PVA/GO composite was primarily responsible for the adsorption mechanism.

Summary: This research explores the ability of XG to remove Pb2+ in the presence of xanthate. The study systematically investigates the effect of xanthate dosage, order of addition, pH value, and coexisting ions on the removal of Pb2+ using XG. The results show that xanthate can increase the removal rate of XG to Pb2+, and heavy metal ions have a competitive impact. The mechanism of XG removal of Pb2+ is also analyzed.

Summary: The adsorption characteristics of palladium from chloride aqueous solution onto the silica alginate (SA-Si) nanomaterial have been studied. The experiment showed that the pseudo-first-order model provided the best fitting for the adsorption of palladium ions, with an equilibrium time of 90.0 min. The Langmuir isotherm model was able to describe the adsorption isotherm result well, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 12.50 mg/g for Pd(II) on the SA-Si nanomaterial. Thermodynamic results indicated that the sorption of Pd(II) onto the SA-Si nanomaterial was endothermic and spontaneous. Additionally, the SA-Si nanomaterial showed effective adsorption for Pd(II) from various metal ions present in fission products.

Summary: A series of capsule-like anion receptors were successfully self-assembled by coordinating flexible amide based polypyrazole ligands with dipalladium corners in aqueous solution. Characterization of these complexes using various techniques confirmed their ability to unsymmetrically accommodate nitrate anions via hydrogen bonding and other weak interactions. NMR titrations in dimethyl sulfoxide showed high selectivity of complexes 1 and 2 for encapsulating nitrate ions.

Summary: A novel pillar[5]arene-based 3D polymer network was developed for efficient iodine removal from water, showing fast and simple preparation method and no structural change after iodine capture, with the ability of being reused multiple times. This polymer network can efficiently adsorb iodine due to non-covalent interactions and hydrophobic nature of pillararene, making it a promising material for environmental remediation.

Summary: A rare gyrobifastigium architecture (GB) was constructed from a tetradentate donor (L) and Pd-II acceptor in DMSO, which converted to its isomeric tetragonal barrel (MB) when treated with water. The hydrophobic cavity of MB was used to encapsulate zinc-phthalocyanine (ZnPc), a photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT). Encapsulation of ZnPc in an aqueous host enhanced its solubility and enabled improved singlet oxygen generation, cellular uptake, and anticancer activity on HeLa cells, suggesting its potential as a strategy for enhancing PDT activity in water.

Summary: The study introduces a new Pd-6 barrel host for efficient encapsulation of fullerene extracts, addressing solubility and purification issues. The barrel exhibits strong binding affinity towards C-70 over C-60, resulting in predominant extraction of C-70 from a mixture. Fullerene-encapsulated barrels show efficient visible-light-induced singlet oxygen generation, with noteworthy preferential binding of C-70.

Summary: New triphenylphosphonium-capped cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7])- and cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8])-based [2]rotaxanes were successfully synthesized using a simultaneous threading-capping strategy. However, attempts to obtain the CB[8] analogue were unsuccessful due to unexpected strong interaction between the host and the phosphonium caps.

Summary: Here, we report a method for synthesizing highly charged enantiopure cyclophanes by incorporating axially chiral enantiomeric binaphthyl fluorophores into pyridinium-based macrocycles. These fluorescent tetracationic cyclophanes show a significant aggregation-induced emission (AIE) compared to their neutral optically active binaphthyl precursors. The AIE is attributed to limited torsional vibrations associated with the axes of chirality present in the chiral enantiomeric binaphthyl units and the fine-tuning of their electronic landscape within the cyclophane structure. Additionally, these highly charged enantiopure cyclophanes exhibit circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) responses both in solution and in the aggregated state. The dual properties of AIE and CPL in these tetracationic cyclophanes have great importance for the future development of photonic devices and bio-applications.

Summary: We present a new class of pH-responsive viologen analogues called vermellogens, which are synthesized efficiently in aqueous media using hydrazone exchange reactions. The vermellogens show significant pH-responsivity and the parent analogue, N,N'-dimethylated vermellogen, exhibits anion-recognition abilities and non-toxicity. The host-guest chemistry of the vermellogens with macrocyclic receptors has been studied experimentally and theoretically, showing similar behavior to a known herbicide but with different redox reactive capabilities.

Summary: A new polycationic pseudo[1]rotaxane was successfully synthesized through hydrazone bonds, self-assembled in excellent yield in aqueous media. The thermodynamically controlled process involves the [1 + 1] reaction of a bisaldehyde and a trishydrazine, formation of the macrocyclic part, conversion into pseudo[1]rotaxane, and the one-pot [1 + 1 + 1] condensation process. The obtained molecule exhibited the ability to form self-inclusion complexes and supramolecular aggregates in different concentration ranges.

Summary: A strategy for modulating the optoelectronic and magnetic properties of indeno[1,2-b]fluorene has been developed. Introducing specific groups in the molecule leads to redshifted absorption maxima and a narrowed HOMO-LUMO energy gap. The single-molecule conductance of antiaromatic indeno[1,2-b]fluorene has also been studied, showing higher values compared to a reference molecule.
