Summary: Stimuli-responsive assembly and reversible light-mediated morphological alterations were observed in rod-coil amphiphilic compounds containing spiropyran groups in a solution system with 99% water content. UV irradiation caused the initial assemblies to deform or disassemble, while the removal of UV source led to the gradual recovery of the original nanostructures through the ring-closing reaction process. These compounds can selectively combine with copper ions and emit bright blue fluorescence, enabling the specific visual identification of copper ions in aqueous solutions.

Summary: This paper introduces a new type of soluble and filmogenic conjugated polymers (PAnSCN and PAnSCN-Tet) for heavy metal sensing applications. The materials are based on the anthracene chromophore and contain tetrazole and/or cyanide groups in their molecular chain backbones. The study investigates the effect of electron withdrawing groups on the photophysical properties and chelating abilities of the organic materials. The synthesized polymers were studied as optical sensors, showing significant decrease in photoluminescence responses with Mn2+ cations, with better sensitivity and selectivity observed in the case of PAnSCN-Tet.

Summary: Sodium tartrate is used as a dual-functional electrolyte additive to improve the reversibility of aqueous zinc-ion batteries. The additive preferentially adsorbs on the zinc surface, coordinates with zinc ions, and promotes uniform zinc deposition on the (002) plane, inhibiting side reactions and dendrite growth. This leads to long-term cycling stability and improved performance of zinc||MnO2 full cells.

Summary: A novel in-situ self-assembled film was prepared on the copper surface via a click chemistry reaction. The formation of the film was confirmed by various spectroscopy analyses, and its corrosion inhibition ability was evaluated using electrochemical methods. The results showed that the film exhibited high corrosion inhibition efficiency, which was attributed to the formation of a C-S bond.

Summary: In this study, new 4-arylindolines containing a thiazole moiety were developed through structural modification, with compound A30 showing promising modulation of the PD-1/PD-L1 axis by promoting IFN-gamma secretion and rescuing T-cell proliferation. Furthermore, A30 demonstrated favorable in vivo antitumor activity in mouse models and inhibited tumor growth by activating the immune microenvironment, suggesting its potential as a starting point for further development of PD-1/PD-L1 interaction inhibitors as antitumor agents.

Summary: The influence of base type, temperature, and solvent on the regioselective click modifications of colchiceine is investigated in this study. New ether derivatives enable the assembly of the alkaloid part with heterocycles or important biomolecules, resulting in hybrid scaffolds with improved or similar anticancer effects compared to colchicine or colchiceine. The substitution pattern and bulkiness of the substituents in the tropolone ring are found to be essential for the improved effects. Docking of the derivatives into the colchicine pocket reveals a relationship between the binding mode and the anticancer potency.

Summary: This study presents a new reaction strategy for carbon-to-oxygen substitution in the core framework of complex molecules, enabling single atom changes. The oxygen atom insertion is achieved through methylene and Baeyer-Villiger oxidations, followed by a nickel-catalyzed decarbonylation to remove the carbon atom. This reaction sequence was successfully applied to various lactones, and also demonstrated on a natural product and a pharmaceutical precursor.

Summary: In this study, a C-N cross-coupling reaction using Ni(cod)(DQ) as a catalyst without additional ligands was reported. This method enables the synthesis of N,N-diarylsulfonamides from weakly nucleophilic N-arylsulfonamides and aryl bromides. The reaction is compatible with a wide range of electron-deficient and electron-rich aryl and heteroaryl bromides and can be applied to the derivatization of N-arylsulfonamide pharmaceutical compounds.

Summary: In this study, an enantioselective Pd-catalyzed C-O bond-forming macrocyclization was developed to access enantioenriched planar chiral macrocyclic metacyclophanes incorporating 2,3,4-trisubstituted pyridines. Various bridging chains and substituents were successfully incorporated into the metacyclophanes under the same reaction conditions. The syn-/anti-conformational preferences of the metacyclophanes were determined through structural, spectroscopic, and computational studies. This work provides a new strategy for the design of enantioselective cross-coupling macrocyclizations for the synthesis of planar chiral structures with potential applications in medicinal chemistry and catalysis.

Summary: The skeletal editing of dibenzolactones to fluorenes by Ni- or Pd-catalyzed decarboxylation is reported. The reaction does not require inductively electron-withdrawing ortho substituents on the aryl carboxylate moiety and metal additives. The mechanism involves the stabilization of the carboxylate-ligated Ni complex over the Ni-carboxylate ion pair.
