Summary: We report a cooperative palladium- and Bronsted acid-catalyzed strategy for the first enantioselective annulation of in situ generated alpha,beta-unsaturated N-acyliminium ions with chiral metal enolates. Novel polycyclic oxoisoindoles with three contiguous stereogenic centers were obtained with good yields, excellent enantiocontrol, and moderate to good diastereoselectivity. The utility of this process was demonstrated by their conversion to synthetically valuable scaffolds.

Summary: A CuH-catalyzed coupling reaction between aryl alkenes and 3-aryl-2H-azirines has been developed to synthesize optically active beta,beta-disubstituted ketones. The reaction proceeds via the regioselective attack of a chiral alkylcopper complex on the N-C2 bonds of azirines, generating chiral beta-aryl imines that can be further hydrolyzed to give ketones. This method provides a novel and efficient approach for the synthesis of chiral beta,beta-disubstituted ketones under mild conditions.

Summary: A green and sustainable strategy is developed for the synthesis of methacrylic monomers and polymer networks using biobased eugenol. The properties of these biobased polymer networks can be tuned by changing the types of eugenol-based monomers and thiol crosslinkers. These networks can be chemically degraded into carboxylic acids and thermally degraded into CO and CO2, offering a pathway to degradable sustainable polymers and materials.

Summary: In this study, an asymmetric cooperative process is reported for the enantioselective 1,6-addition of fi-ketoesters to in situ generated para-quinone methides using chiral Pd-aqua complexes as mixed Bronsted acid-base catalysts. The reaction exhibits excellent yields, outstanding enantiocontrol, and good diastereoselectivity across a wide range of substrates. The utility of this reaction is demonstrated through facile scale up and subsequent complexity-increasing modifications.

Summary: We report the enantioselective conjugate addition of organic boronic acids to beta-enaminones catalyzed by (S)-2,15-Cl-2-DHTP, providing high yields and moderate to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee). This catalytic system exhibits unique features including mild reaction conditions, high efficiency, broad substrate scope, and applicability to alkenylboronic acids and heteroarylboronic acids.

Summary: In this study, the researchers utilized a plant-derived phenolic compound to modify the surface of polyamide 66 (PA66), resulting in a superhydrophobic fabric with multiple functionalities. The modified fabric exhibited excellent self-cleaning, UV-blocking, photothermal conversion, and oil-water separation capabilities. Additionally, other plant-derived phenolic compounds were also effective for multi-functional modification of PA66 fabric. This study offers a novel approach to improve the properties of synthetic materials.

Summary: In this study, the thermal conductivity of sintered reaction-bonded silicon nitride (SRBSN) was found to increase with sintering temperature, while the lattice oxygen content decreased with increasing temperature. The analysis also revealed that the lattice oxygen substitution in beta-Si3N4 crystals could affect thermal conductivity.

Summary: Constructing a reinforced and gradient SEI on silicon nanoparticles through an in-situ thiol-ene click reaction is an effective method to improve cycling performance and stability. The modified SEI can homogenize stress and strain during lithiation to reduce expansion and prevent cracking, leading to excellent performance and cycling stability in high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries.

Summary: In this study, the (R)-3,3'-Br-2-BINOL-catalyzed enantioselective conjugate addition of organic boronic acids to beta,gamma-unsaturated alpha-ketoesters was achieved with moderate to high yields and moderate to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee). The catalytic system displayed characteristics of mild reaction conditions, high efficiency, and tolerance to alkenylboronic acids and heteroarylboronic acids.

Summary: In this paper, density functional theory calculations were performed to evaluate the oxidation of CH4 to CH3OH using O2 on graphitic MN4G-BN and CuN4G-PN systems. It was found that B doping adjacent to Fe and Co centers as well as P doping adjacent to Cu center facilitated the dissociation of O=O bond, resulting in active M-O and inactive B/P-O sites. Among them, CuN4G-PN was predicted to be a potential catalyst for the stepwise conversion of CH4 to CH3OH using O2 at low temperatures.
