Summary: Chiral analogues of squaramides have proved to be efficient asymmetric catalysts in the synthesis of acyclic and cyclic chiral molecules. By utilizing several bifunctional squaramides as catalysts, a wide range of cyclic molecules bearing multiple functionalities and stereocenters have been successfully synthesized.

Summary: Despite recent progress in C(sp(3))-H activation, achieving high regioselectivity in molecules with similar energy levels containing different C-H bonds remains a challenge. The use of directing groups and palladium catalysis in cyclometallation for direct C(sp(3))-H bond functionalization presents challenges in controlling selectivity and strategies.

Summary: This article reports an unprecedented family of substituted anionic derivatives of pnictogenylboranes. By reacting various combinations of H2E'-BH2-NMe3 (E'=P, As) with pnictogen-based nucleophiles MER1R2 (E=P, As; R1=H, R2=Bu-t; R1=R2=Ph; M=Na, K), unsymmetrical and symmetrical products were isolated. Furthermore, the thermodynamics of the reaction pathways were evaluated by quantum chemical computations.

Summary: As the key structural unit, five-membered carbocycles are commonly found in natural products. Daphniphyllum alkaloids, with their complex structures and interesting bioactivity, have attracted synthetic chemists' attention. This review focuses on the novel or relatively rarely used strategies and methods for constructing the five-membered carbocycle in recent Daphniphyllum alkaloid synthesis, covering from January 2017 to August 2022.

Summary: A palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction has been developed for the synthesis of eight-membered carbocycles, featuring C(sp(3))-H activation and the formation of two C-C bonds with excellent diastereoselectivity. This reaction provides a new strategy for constructing eight-membered carbocycles and yields novel chiral scaffolds.

Summary: The study demonstrates that irreversible ring-opening polymerization of biomass-derived thionolactones is an effective strategy for producing sustainable polymers with renewability and high performance properties, which are thermodynamically forbidden under ambient conditions. This strategy allows the conversion of traditionally unachievable five-membered lactones into practical materials with a range of potential applications.

Summary: In this study, CV2025 u-transaminase from Chromobacterium violaceum was successfully cloned, expressed, purified, and characterized. The enzyme showed a preference for the R configuration, contrary to the conventional S preference. The highest activity was observed at temperatures below 60 degrees C and at pH 7.5. The study provides a promising strategy for the economic and efficient synthesis of chiral five-membered carbasugars.

Summary: Drug design and delivery is focused on finding new potent drug candidates and synthetic techniques. Recently, the synthesis of saturated heterocycles has gained significant attention in medicinal chemistry. Transition metal-catalyzed reactions have been the primary method for heterocyclic synthesis, but now they are being combined with other techniques to enhance their effectiveness. This review highlights the recent developments in the transition metal-catalyzed synthesis of five-membered saturated heterocycles.

Summary: Two methods of post-synthetic modification (Suzuki coupling and CuAAC click-reaction) were applied to Ir(iii) complexes to introduce a highly selective donor site. The potential of post-synthetic modification for controlled construction of d-d and d-f binuclear complexes was demonstrated using functionalized complexes. Characterization techniques such as elemental analysis, NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, FTIR spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis were used to analyze the obtained complexes. The coordination of the diimine donor site to the Ln(iii) center was confirmed through XPS and NEXAFS spectroscopy. The photophysical properties and luminescent characteristics of the complexes were investigated, and TDDFT calculations were used to explain the luminescence mechanism.

Summary: We developed an enantioselective synthetic method utilizing Ir-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation to introduce chirality at the benzylic position, followed by Pd-catalyzed cascade cyclization for tricyclic molecular framework construction and Ag nitrene-mediated C-H amination for tetrasubstituted carbon center creation. This method provides access to a functionalized seven-membered ring-fused indole skeleton with a hydroxymethyl branch in the tetrasubstituted carbon.
