Summary: In this study, the crystallization process of TiO2 nanotube (TNT) layers was investigated through in-situ annealing in an XRD chamber. TNT layers of different thicknesses (1, 5, and 20 μm) and morphologies (double wall vs single wall) were annealed with two different annealing rates in the temperature range of room temperature to 500 degrees C. Three different annealing atmospheres (air, N2, and 5%H2/95%N2) were also explored. XRD patterns were measured at every 15 degrees C of the heating ramp, and the crystallite sizes of the anatase phase were calculated using the Scherer equation. The differences in crystallization behavior for different TNT layers and the influence of the annealing atmosphere on 5 μm thick TNT layers are described and discussed.

Summary: The study shows that the iron nitride layer decomposed after a 5-hour annealing at 520 degrees Celsius, with the hardness distribution and effective thickness of the diffusion layer remaining unchanged on both tested steels. The results also demonstrate that nitrogen emission during annealing of nitrided steels does not result in nitrogen diffusion into the base layer.

Summary: This study provides a simple method combined with dry transfer technique to apply strain to two-dimensional materials and suppress their slippage on substrates. The thermal treatment of WSe2/PC stacking improves its stability and forms dome structures, which contribute to the suppression of slippage. These findings are significant for the strain engineering and device applications of two-dimensional materials.

Summary: In this paper, an efficient, rapid, energy-saving, and eco-friendly incandescent annealing purification (IAP) method is presented to prepare ultrahigh-purity and high-quality carbon nanotube (CNT) films. The results show that the method can significantly reduce Fe-containing impurities in CNT films, enhance the mechanical performance, ablation resistance, and stable electro-heating of CNT and its composite film. Furthermore, the IAP method has a much higher purification efficiency of 99.47% compared to the conventional electro-oxidation (E-Oxi) purification (71.20%).

Summary: The study systematically investigated the effects of hydrogen annealing on Ni- and Al-contacted carbon nanotube field-effect transistors. The results showed that hydrogen adsorption modified the electronic properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes, leading to improved performance of the CNTFETs after annealing. Changes in the electron affinity and bandgap of the carbon nanotubes were observed, consistent with ab initio calculations.

Summary: In this paper, the authors investigate a method to alter the work function of TiN thin films using atomic layer annealing (ALA) technique. The results show that by incorporating layer-by-layer atomic layer deposition cycle with argon plasma treatment, the density, stoichiometry, and crystallinity of TiN thin films can be significantly improved at a low temperature of 300 degrees C, resulting in a wide tunability of the TiN metal gate's work function.

Summary: This study improves the performance of twistron harvesters by optimizing the alignment of precursor CNT forests, stretching the precursor twisted yarn, applying higher tensile loads during pre-coiling, using electrothermal pulse annealing, and incorporating reduced graphene oxide nanoplates. The peak output power is significantly increased at both 1 Hz and 30 Hz frequencies, with the latter achieving a 13-fold improvement compared to previous harvesters. The maximum energy conversion efficiency is also greatly improved. Twistron anode and cathode yarn arrays are stretched out-of-phase to double the output voltage.
