Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of orthokeratology (ortho-k) lenses for myopia control and the corneal changes with increased compression factor. The findings showed that ortho-k lenses with increased compression factor can effectively slow down the progression of myopia without compromising corneal health. Further research is needed to confirm the potential mechanism of an increased compression factor for improved myopia control effectiveness.

Summary: The prevalence of myopia among adolescents is increasing annually. Long-term orthokeratology (OK) treatment may have detrimental effects on tear film in children and adolescents, with these changes masked by spectacle wearing.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and safety of corneal refractive therapy (CRT) lenses and vision shaping treatment (VST) lenses for myopia control in children. The results showed that compared with VST lenses, CRT lenses had a weaker effect on myopia control but were safer. Different types of VST lenses had similar efficacy and safety in controlling myopia progression.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of orthokeratology treatment with DRL lenses on myopia progression compared to single vision glasses users. A 2-year retrospective multicenter study was conducted in France to analyze the clinical efficacy of orthokeratology treatment with DRL lenses for myopia correction in children and adolescents. The results showed that after 1 and 2 years of treatment, orthokeratology with DRL lenses had a significant control effect on myopia compared to spectacle wearers.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of wearing Orthokeratology (ortho-K) lenses on the quality of life of myopic children in Kuala Lumpur. The results showed that myopic children wearing ortho-K lenses had higher vision-related quality of life scores compared to those wearing single-vision spectacles (SVSs).

Summary: The aim of this study is to evaluate the potential of a novel custom-designed rigid gas permeable contact lens for controlling high myopia. The results suggest that multifocal rigid gas-permeable lenses have no significant impact on controlling high myopia progression compared with single-vision spectacles.

Summary: This study retrospectively investigated the axial length changes in myopic children wearing orthokeratology lenses and found that after initial shortening, the axial length rapidly rebounded during the washout period and shortened again when lenses were re-worn. The changes in axial length were significantly correlated with the initial axial length. Therefore, measuring axial length after the washout period can provide a more objective and accurate evaluation of orthokeratology, and the existence and degree of axial shortening can predict long-term myopia development.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of an orthokeratology lens on tear film and tarsal glands, as well as myopia control in children with unilateral myopia, using an intelligent analysis model. The study found that tear film break-up times differed significantly in the treatment group, and there were also significant differences in the deformation coefficients of the meibomian glands. In contrast, the control group showed no significant differences.

Summary: This study analyzed OCT images of retinal shadows caused by defocus and diffusion optics spectacles. The results showed obvious retinal shadows in the periphery of the images, while the central area remained clear. The discrepancy between the actual size of the shadows and their appearance in the OCT images was attributed to the scanning OCT beam not being parallel to the optical axis. With device-specific correction, retinal OCT images can help visualize the regions affected by defocus or lowered contrast induced by myopia control spectacles.

Summary: Increased higher-order aberrations and improved accommodative accuracy were observed during orthokeratology treatment, but began to regress after the cessation of orthokeratology. A significant positive correlation between improved accommodative accuracy and slowed axial elongation was only observed during the first 6 months of treatment.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of wearing spectacle lenses with highly aspherical lenslets (HAL) on visual field sensitivity. The results showed that HAL did not change the detection sensitivity to static targets within the whole visual field up to 30 degrees eccentricity, compared to single vision lenses (SVL).

Summary: This study found that combining 0.01% atropine with orthokeratology (AOK) has a better effect in retarding axial elongation compared to orthokeratology alone (OK). The study included 96 Chinese children aged 6 to 11 years with myopia and showed that the AOK group had significantly slower axial elongation compared to the OK group. The AOK group also exhibited larger pupil dilation and choroidal thickening.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of controlling the annual increase in axial length in myopic children based on different parameters, finding that a smaller back optic zone diameter and a smaller plus power ring diameter inside the pupil were more effective in slowing down the elongation of the eye. The results provide new insights for changing myopia treatment methods and designs.

Summary: Contact lens materials have undergone significant changes in the past 20 years with the introduction of silicone hydrogel materials. However, research is still needed to improve comfort, as the association between contact lens wettability and comfort is not clear. The interactions between lens materials, tear film, and disinfection solution play an important role in biocompatibility, but whether this can be altered to improve comfort remains debatable.
