Summary: This study focused on the comparative cytotoxicity investigations of protein-stabilized gold nanoclusters on lymphocytes B and T cells. It was found that gamma G-Au NCs induced the highest disorders in mitochondrial activity, while LYZ- and gamma G-Au NCs enhanced the secretion of malonic dialdehyde. Despite minor effects on cell viability, all Au NCs caused oxidative stress and could stimulate undesirable cellular processes.

Summary: Atom precise metal nanoclusters with customized surface structures play an important role in understanding surface engineering mechanisms for specific applications. In this study, a single copper atom doping was performed on a widely studied Au11(PPh3)7Cl3 nanocluster, resulting in the formation of a bimetal nanocluster Cu1Au11(PPh3)7Cl2 with a unique Au-Cu surface motif. The unsaturated copper atom in this motif acts as an active catalyst for Sonogashira reaction, showing reversed selectivity compared to the catalytically inactive Au11 nanocluster. Theoretical calculations support the unsaturated Cu atom as the active site and a single-atom catalyst in the nanocluster.

Summary: This study evaluated the acute and subacute toxicity of fluorescent gold nanoclusters conjugated with alpha-lipoic acid (FANC) in mice. The results showed that FANC had no significant toxicity in the tested dose range, with no adverse effects on physiological parameters, organ histopathology, or liver and renal function. The only observed change was a slight effect on body weight, but it was below the threshold of concern and not dose-dependent.

Summary: Studying the superfast unidirectional ballistic dynamics of individual nanoparticles along the liquid-gas interface and manipulating them using four-dimensional electron microscopy. Experimental results show that nanoparticles exhibit continuous superfast unidirectional translation upon repetitive femtosecond laser excitation, driven by unidirectional random impulsive forces induced by nanobubbles, which can be controlled by tuning laser characteristics. This directional plasmonic NB-propulsion mechanism provides insights for the design of light-controllable artificially intelligent micro/nanomotor systems.

Summary: By introducing a ceramic tube, a water vapor electrodeless microwave plasma device is proposed to avoid the corrosion of metal electrodes. The device can work directly with liquid water without complex evaporation equipment. The study found that when the microwave power is greater than 800 W, the plasma torch can be excited permanently and stably without loss of ceramic. Optical spectroscopy confirmed the generation of oxygen atom, hydroxyl radical, and hydrogen atom during the decomposition of water vapor. The microwave discharge also improved the crystallinity of the ceramic. This work enriches the microwave plasma techniques for water vapor and has various applications in electric propulsion, hydrogen production, and surface treatment.

Summary: Investigating coherent acoustic vibrations in nanostructured materials provides fundamental insights into optomechanical responses and microscopic energy flow. However, previous measurements have shown that only the dilation modes are launched after laser excitations, and the acoustic bending and torsional motions are absent. In this study, acoustic vibrational dynamics of individual Au nanoprisms on graphene substrates were investigated, revealing low-frequency multiple-mode oscillations and higher superposition amplitudes at nanoprism corners and edges. These findings contribute to the understanding of acoustic dynamics of nanostructures and their interaction with substrates.
