A copper-catalyzed dicyanation of N,N-disubstituted formamide with trimethylsilyl cyanide (TMSCN) has been successfully developed to give a series of dialkylamino-malononitriles in moderate to good yields. This novel method might provide versatile synthetically useful intermediates for the construction of alpha-amino acids and various kinds of structurally diverse nitrogen heterocycles. The use of JohnPhosAuCl/NaBARF catalyst led to the formation of functionalizable spirocyclic products with high diastereoselectivity ranging from 6.7:1 to > 20:1 dr. A plausible reaction mechanism has been proposed based on previous literature and experimental findings.

InI3-catalyzed polyene cyclization of allenes and its application in the total synthesis of seven abietane-type diterpenoids

This efficient strategy enables the construction of an abietane-type tricyclic skeleton with a functionalizable C2-C3 double bond, exhibiting a wide substrate scope and excellent stereoselectivities. The potential utility of this approach has been demonstrated through the total synthesis of seven abietane-type diterpenoids, including the first synthesis of (+/-)-2,3-dihydroxyferruginol and (+/-)-2,3-dihydroxy-15,16-dinor-ent-pimar-8,11,13-triene.
