As the green movement spreads across the globe, organizations are under pressure to reduce the emissions across their supply chain. On the other hand, they need to cut supply costs to gain a competitive edge. This paper proposes Green DEA (GDEA), a comprehensive approach based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) with carbon footprint monitoring. GDEA builds on an existing DEA model with weight restrictions and dual role factors, and introduces carbon footprints as necessary dual role factors with weight restrictions. Unlike other researches, GDEA incorporates heterogeneous suppliers and also takes into account regional emission compliance standards and laws. GDEA encourages suppliers to go green and cut down their carbon footprints and comply with emission norms along with reducing costs in order to survive competition. Results from model validation in a well-known automobile spare parts manufacturer in India are presented to verify the GDEA approach. Overall, GDEA cuts across a huge and varied supplier base, caters to almost all businesses, is environment-friendly and robust. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Summary: In most multicriteria decision-making methods, determining the importance weight of criteria is crucial. This article proposes a new decision-making method based on Shapley's value that extracts importance weights of criteria at different levels by considering the consistency between subcriteria. Additionally, an interactive top-down decision-making approach is presented to handle compatible judgments.

Summary: This paper proposes a new strategy that integrates technological capabilities and supply chain management initiatives to address the challenge of deteriorative products expiring. The strategy aligns with the zero-waste concept in the circular economy era and circular supply chain. The research focuses on integrating a supply chain and developing a buy-back coordination mechanism to incentivize cooperation among members and encourage participation in regenerative operations. The study demonstrates the economic feasibility of the proposed strategy and shows that an integrated supply chain equipped with the mentioned technology can achieve higher profits.

Analysis of the Chinese government's subsidy programs to restore the pork supply chain: The case of African swine fever

Hengyu Liu, Kai Zheng

Summary: Since August 2018, African swine fever (ASF) has caused over one million pig deaths in China and led to a surge in pork prices. To address this issue, the Chinese government has implemented two farm subsidies: the compulsory culling subsidy (CCS) and the large-scale breeding subsidy (LBS). Through a game-theoretic model, the study explores the optimal design of these subsidy programs and their impacts on different stakeholders.

Comparative risk aversion vs. threshold choice in the Omega ratio

Anne G. Balter, Ki Wai Chau, Nikolaus Schweizer

Summary: This study examines whether the threshold parameter in the Omega ratio represents risk aversion by analyzing the asymptotic expansions for risk premia. The results suggest that the threshold in the Omega ratio represents risk aversion when the variance of the additional risk decreases with the background risk and when the density of the background risk is log-concave. Comparisons with expected utility criteria indicate that the conditions for the Omega threshold to represent risk aversion are comparable to those for exponential utility functions.

Supply chain contracting with asymmetric cost information and behavioral preferences: Theory and experiment☆

Junlin Chen, Zewu Jiang, Xiaobo Zhao, Wanshan Zhu, Jinxing Xie

Summary: In this study, we investigate a supply chain system consisting of a retailer and a supplier. We examine the threshold problem in contract design and take into account the risk preference of the retailer and the fairness concern of the supplier. The experiment shows that the behavior of the retailer affects the threshold of the optimal contract design, while the behavior of the supplier only affects the optimal wholesale price. These findings suggest that the behavior of retailers and suppliers play a crucial role in the mechanism design of supply chains.
