Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relative importance of various physiological and psychosocial factors during the first trimester of pregnancy on the occurrence of pain symptoms later in pregnancy. The results showed that experiencing pain during the first trimester was the most important predictor for pain later in pregnancy.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the correlation between fetal fraction (FF) of cell-free DNA (cf-DNA) and pregnancy complications related to placental dysfunction in Twin Pregnancy. The results showed that low FF was associated with an increased risk of small for gestational age (SGA) in twin pregnancy. Additionally, the fetal fraction of cf-DNA may provide a new idea for the early screening of diseases related to placental dysfunction in twin pregnancy.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the impact of the 2016 Chinese second-child policy and different maternal ages on adverse perinatal outcomes. Clinical data from 22 monitoring hospitals in Hebei Province from January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2021 were collected and analyzed. The results showed an increase in the incidence of pregnancy complications after the implementation of the two-child policy, especially among women of advanced maternal age.

Summary: There is a relationship between the blood pressure thresholds defined by the 2017 American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Blood pressure thresholds of 140 mm Hg (systolic) and 90 mm Hg (diastolic) from 20 weeks of gestation can effectively identify women at increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Summary: Although most abortion care takes place in the office setting, anesthesiologists are often asked to provide anesthesia for the 1% of abortions that take place later, in the second trimester. Changes in federal and state regulations surrounding abortion services may result in an increase in second-trimester abortions due to barriers to accessing care. Therefore, anesthesiologists may be increasingly involved in care for these patients.

Summary: Progesterone plays important roles in endocrinology and immunomodulation during pregnancy. Maternal immune reactivity can interfere with pregnancy and lead to complications. This article summarizes the contribution of cytokines to pregnancy complications and explores the potential of progesterone and its analog dydrogesterone in the prevention and treatment of these complications.

Summary: This study aimed to establish reference ranges for maternal cardiac output, systemic vascular resistance, and stroke volume in the third trimester of pregnancy using the Ultrasound Cardiac Output Monitor 1A. The results showed that maximum cardiac output and stroke volume were measured in gestational weeks 30-32 and decreased over the third trimester, while systemic vascular resistance increased during the same period. The study not only provides reference ranges for clinicians to assess cardiac function during pregnancy, but also created a simple calculator for clinical practice.
