Summary: The study aimed to examine the relationship between individual lifestyle factors and healthy aging among Chinese adults. The results showed that adopting a healthy lifestyle, even after midlife, was associated with healthy aging at old age. Increasing the protective lifestyle score at baseline and second follow-up visits was linked to a higher likelihood of healthy aging.

Summary: This study assessed the prevalence and associated factors of obesity and overweight in Chinese inpatients with bipolar disorder (BD). The results showed that obesity and overweight were fairly prevalent in Chinese BD patients and were associated with factors such as age, disease duration, metabolic indices, diabetes, and hypertension. These findings highlight the importance of early screening, prevention, and intervention for obesity and overweight in BD patients in China.

Summary: The study found a high prevalence of olfactory impairment among rural-dwelling older adults in China, with significant associations with factors such as age, illiteracy, smoking, dementia, head injury, and sinonasal disease, while being negatively associated with overweight or obesity. Olfactory impairment may serve as a potential clinical marker for neurodegenerative disorders among older adults.

Summary: The study investigated the prevalence of obesity/overweight and related risk factors in first-episode, drug-naive (FEDN) patients with MDD in China. The results showed that overweight is more common than obesity among FEDN MDD patients, with TSH being identified as an independent risk factor for weight gain, and an inverted U-shaped parabolic relationship between TSH and BMI.

Summary: The study found that adding testosterone to lifestyle therapy for 6 months does not further improve overall physical function in older, obese men with hypogonadism. However, testosterone may help attenuate the reduction in muscle mass and hip bone mineral density caused by weight loss, and may also improve aerobic capacity.

Summary: This study investigated the interaction between different dietary patterns and various health parameters in a Greek population with obesity and metabolic disorders. The findings suggest that dietary patterns characterized by high consumption of energy-dense and animal-derived foods are positively associated with anthropometric and biochemical parameters related to metabolic disorders. On the other hand, plant-based, healthier dietary patterns are associated with better biochemical and mental health profiles among metabolically unhealthy obese individuals.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of comorbid obesity and its risk factors in Chinese patients with bipolar disorder (BD). The results showed that the prevalence of comorbid obesity in Chinese patients with BD was 21.3%. Obese patients had higher levels of blood glucose, liver enzymes, cholesterol, and triglycerides, and lower levels of high-density lipoprotein compared to non-obese patients. Multiple linear regression analysis identified ALT, blood glucose, uric acid, TG, and Apo B levels as important risk factors for BMI.

Summary: This paper proposes a hybrid technique using low complexity selective mapping and improved mu law companding scheme to reduce the PAPR and complexity in coherent optical OFDM systems. Simulation results demonstrate significant PAPR reduction and complexity optimization with the proposed scheme. Overall, the LCSLM-mu scheme provides better PAPR reduction performance and reduced complexity compared to traditional approaches, making it a viable option for trade-offs among PAPR reduction, BER, and complexity.

Summary: The incidence and mortality rates of childhood cancer vary between different countries. This study used data from the Cancer Incidence in Five Continents Time Trends, Nordic Cancer Registries, Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results, and WHO Mortality databases to extract the Age-Standardised Rates (ASR) of cancer incidence and mortality among children aged 0-14 years old. The country-specific Average Annual Percentage Change (AAPC) and its corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated to determine the epidemiological cancer trend. The results showed that low-income countries had the highest mortality and mortality to incidence ratio of childhood cancer. The incidence of childhood cancer showed an overall increasing trend, while the mortality rate decreased over the past decade.

Summary: Globally, gastrointestinal cancers account for over one-fourth of all cancer incidence and one-third of cancer-related mortality. East Asia has the highest burden of gastrointestinal cancers, including stomach, liver, oesophageal, and gallbladder cancers, which is attributed to population growth, aging, and westernization of lifestyles. The increasing incidence of young-onset colorectal cancer is also observed in East Asia. To effectively reduce the burden of gastrointestinal cancers in this region, efforts should be made to modify unhealthy lifestyles, promote vaccination against hepatitis virus, control infections, increase colorectal cancer screening, enhance early cancer detection, and improve cancer survivorship through organized rehabilitation programs.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the associations of fetal and childhood exposure to famine of parents with their offspring's risk of overweight during childhood. The results showed that children with fathers exposed to famine during childhood had a lower risk of overweight, especially male offspring. The association between paternal childhood exposure to famine and lower overweight risk in offspring was more evident in the high paternal education group.

Summary: The objective of this study is to evaluate the global distribution, risk factors, and temporal trends of corpus uteri cancer for different countries and age groups. Data from the Global Cancer Observatory database, Cancer Incidence in Five Continents, and the WHO mortality database were analyzed to calculate age-standardized rates and estimate the annual average percent change. The results showed a substantial increasing trend of corpus uteri cancer, with high-income countries having the highest incidence. Intensive lifestyle modifications are needed, especially among younger women.

Summary: Vulvar cancer is an uncommon malignancy that poses a public health problem in terms of cost, treatment, and women's health. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the global burden, risk factors, and temporal incidence trends of vulvar cancer. The incidence of vulvar cancer was higher in Western Europe, Northern America, Northern Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and Eastern Africa. Risk factors such as gross domestic product per capita, Human Development Index, smoking, alcohol drinking, unsafe sex, and HIV infection were associated with higher incidence rates. Overall, the incidence of vulvar cancer is increasing, with different trends observed in older and younger females. The disease burden of vulvar cancer affects women in both developed and developing regions and calls for promotion of smoking cessation, sex education, and HPV vaccination programs. Further studies are needed to explore the reasons behind the increasing trend.

Summary: This study evaluated the global incidence, mortality, risk factors, and temporal trends of lip, oral, and pharyngeal cancer. Results showed that the highest incidence rates were found in Melanesia and South-Central Asia, with mortality rates of 8.2 and 7.5. Risk factors associated with incidence and mortality included HDI, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, poor diet, and chronic health conditions. Overall, global incidence and mortality rates have decreased, but there are significant increases in older age groups and female subjects.
