Summary: This study aims to explore the status quo of self-management among young adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and the determinants of self-management under the guidance of social cognitive theory. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 227 young adults (18-44 years old) with T2DM at two hospitals in Beijing. The findings showed that self-management behaviors were influenced by factors such as fasting blood-glucose value, self-efficacy, diabetes distress, diabetes-related social activity, confrontation, education, duration of T2DM, treatment modalities, and diabetes knowledge.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the prevalence and clinical characteristics of WFS1-related diabetes (WFS1-DM) in a Chinese population with early-onset type 2 diabetes (EOD). Through sequencing the exons of the WFS1 gene in 690 EOD patients, 33 rare variants were identified, and 6 patients were found to have pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants associated with WFS1-DM. These patients exhibited lower C-peptide levels and the need for insulin treatment. WFS1-DM is often misdiagnosed as type 2 diabetes, and genetic testing is helpful for personalized treatment.

Summary: This study, guided by Leventhal's Self-Regulatory Model, explores the direct effects of emotional distress on diabetes management self-efficacy, and the indirect effects through illness perceptions among Chinese Americans with type 2 diabetes. The results suggest that improving perceptions of treatment control can enhance diabetes management self-efficacy among Chinese Americans.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and clinical characteristics of MODY4 in Chinese patients with EOD, and found that MODY4 accounted for 0.59% in this cohort. It was also revealed that MODY4 was more difficult to clinically diagnose compared to other subtypes, but there was a relationship between genotype and phenotype.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the risks and mediation effects of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD) and heart failure (HF) in young- and usual-onset type 2 diabetes (T2D) among White Americans (WAs) and African Americans (AAs). The study found that AAs had a higher risk of developing CKD and HF compared to WAs, and CKD had a greater mediation effect on the HF risk difference between ethnicities compared to HF on CKD risk difference.

Summary: This study collected text data from online health communities of Chinese patients with diabetes, revealing that patients mainly focus on disease treatment, disease etiology and knowledge, and lifestyle changes. The findings indicate a gap between medical standards such as guidelines and patient needs, highlighting the importance of improving diabetes health education, guideline development strategies, and health management strategies from a patient perspective.

Summary: The incidence of DFU hospitalizations in patients with type 2 diabetes has increased between different age groups, especially in younger participants. Factors such as PSN, peripheral arterial disease, and suboptimal glycemic control at baseline were identified as independent predictors of incident hospitalization for/with DFU.

Summary: This study aimed to identify differences in psychosocial variables between inner-city African American men and women with type 2 diabetes, and to examine if these variables have different effects on diabetes self-management behaviors based on gender. The results showed no significant gender differences in psychosocial characteristics, but highlighted that high diabetes knowledge and self-efficacy were associated with better self-management behaviors in women, while high numeracy was associated with better diabetes self-management only in men. Low depression, high health literacy, and high social support were also found to be linked to better self-management in both genders.

Summary: This study investigated the lived experience of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at a Teaching Hospital in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The findings showed that the participants experienced a range of symptoms when diagnosed with diabetes, and later experienced additional symptoms. The majority of the participants believed that diabetes was caused by heredity. Most of the participants did not experience a reduction in their normal daily activities, but faced occasional emotional disturbances, anxiety, and challenges with self-management of diabetes.

Summary: This study examines the prevalence rate of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Chinese Americans (CAs), the influence of acculturative status on T2DM prevalence, and differences in diabetes management between CAs and Non-Hispanic Whites (NHWs). The study found that the prevalence rate of T2DM was similar between CAs and NHWs, but there were differences in diabetes management, with less acculturated CAs being less likely to actively manage and have confidence in managing their T2DM.
