Summary: The paper investigates the penetration properties of an airborne Ku-band frequency modulated continuous waveform (FMCW) profiling radar and a satellite near-infrared lidar into the boreal forest of Finland. The Ku-band microwave can penetrate deeper into the forest than the near-infrared laser at the same spatial scale. The analysis results provide valuable insights for exploring FMCW radar applications and data fusion of the Ku-band radar and near-infrared lidar in forest investigations.

Summary: This study introduced a standardized surgical method for single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC) based on 10 years of experience. The results showed that the commercial modified KSM (C-mKSM) method is a safe and feasible option for SILC in selected patients, with lower percentage of patients with acute cholecystitis compared to other groups.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the effects of oxylipins on fetal growth. A diverse panel of oxylipins, originating from the lipoxygenase pathway, was identified in maternal and umbilical cord plasma. Both omega-3 and omega-6 oxylipins demonstrated potential influences on birth length and weight percentiles, suggesting that oxylipins present during pregnancy may serve as biomarkers for infant outcomes.

Summary: Improving the single hydrophone's detection capability of line spectra is crucial for passive detection of small underwater platforms. The proposed single-hydrophone cross-power spectrum (SHCS) method based on time-domain coherence exploits the coherence of line spectra and the non-coherence of continuous spectrum noise to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the line spectra. Simulation and analysis demonstrate that the SHCS method achieves the best performance with a 15 dB coherence gain when the overlap ratio is 0 and the number of averaging operations reaches saturation. Sea experiments confirm the effectiveness of the SHCS method in obtaining a coherence gain of about 10 dB under extremely low input SNR and about 13 dB under conventional input SNR. The processing of radiated noise from a real cargo ship further verifies the effectiveness of the SHCS method.

Summary: The log response ratio (lnRR) is commonly used in ecology meta-analysis, but missing standard deviations (SDs) pose a challenge in estimating the sampling variance. We propose a new method using weighted average coefficient of variation (CV) from studies reporting SDs to address this issue. Our results show that using the average CV to estimate sampling variances for all observations, regardless of missingness, performs better than the conventional approach using individual study-specific CV with complete data. This approach is broadly applicable and can be implemented in all lnRR meta-analyses.

Summary: This study introduces a depth image-based broiler carcass weight prediction system using an Active Shape Model to segment the carcass and developing five regression models for weight estimation. The proposed technique, utilizing the Bayesian-ANN model for whole carcass and head and neck weight estimation, and the RBF-SVR model for drumstick, breast, and wings weight prediction, can be applied as a nondestructive, nonintrusive, and accurate on-line broiler carcass production system.

Summary: Fetal growth restriction is associated with increased risk of adverse perinatal outcomes (APOs). In the study, it was found that newborns who are small-for-gestational-age (SGA) without fetal growth detention (FGD) have the highest probability of APOs. However, appropriate-for-gestational-age (AGA) newborns with FGD did not show an increased risk of APOs, except for a higher risk of cesarean section in cases where percentile cutoff fell over 40. More research is needed to identify newborns who may benefit from closer monitoring in late gestation and during delivery.

Summary: This article proposes an accurate fault location method based on single-ended traveling waves, which can determine the fault location on the line by inputting the first three arrival times of traveling wave wavefronts and the line wave velocity. The method is cost-effective, communication-free, and performs well in simulations with realistic line models.

Summary: This study introduces a novel method for measuring the propagation constant of transmission lines without the need for prior calibration of a two-port vector network analyzer (VNA). By emulating multiple line standards, the method achieves accurate results. Measurements were conducted using a slab coaxial airline on three different VNAs, all yielding nearly identical results. The proposed method eliminates errors related to connection repeatability, resulting in improved broadband traceability to SI units.

Summary: Chemical reference standards were developed to assist in a more objective and consistent sensory evaluation of shrimp quality. The key aroma quality indicators allowed trained and untrained panels to distinguish shrimp of different freshness levels, indicating the potential use of chemical references as a new evaluation tool for on-site quality inspection or industrial quality assurance/control of shrimp.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel approach utilizing the distribution of line segments to enhance the Non-Maximum Suppression (NMS) in object detection models. Multiple metrics are designed to measure the overlap between bounding boxes. As a post-processing technique, the proposed segment-based NMS can be easily applied to various models and its effectiveness is verified on multiple benchmarks.
