Anisotropic polystyrene (PS) particles with single cavity structures were synthesized using a modified dispersion polymerization method with divinylbenzene (DVB) as a crosslinker. Using the PS cave particles as templates, anisotropic titanium dioxide (TiO2) hollow microspheres were fabricated facilely. Due to possessing excellent photocatalytic activities, the obtained anisotropic TiO2 hollow spheres have potential applications in detoxification extraction and waste removal with very simple and efficient procedures.
