Summary: Norway is considering revising triage approaches for cervical cancer screening. The study found that using age to guide triage, along with selective HPV genotyping and follow-up time, could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the screening program.

Summary: A recent trial suggests that screening for cardiovascular disease in men may decrease all-cause mortality. This study evaluates the cost effectiveness of such screening and finds that comprehensive screening is cost effective compared to no screening.

A Cost-Effectiveness Evaluation of Surgical Approaches to Proctectomy

Summary: Research shows that laparoscopic and robotic proctectomy are less costly and have higher quality-adjusted life years (QALY) than open surgery. Based on current data, laparoscopy is the most cost-effective approach. Robotic proctectomy can also be cost-effective if modest differences in costs or postoperative length of stay can be achieved.

The Cost-Effectiveness of Supplemental Carnosine in Type 2 Diabetes

Summary: This study assessed the cost-effectiveness of daily 1g carnosine supplementation in addition to standard care for the management of type 2 diabetes and compared it to standard care alone. The results showed that supplemental dietary carnosine may be a cost-effective treatment option for people with type 2 diabetes in Australia.

Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Personalized Hypertension Prevention

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the NAP SACC UK intervention to increase physical activity, reduce sedentary time and improve nutritional intake. The study will be conducted through a multi-centre cluster RCT with process and economic evaluation. Nursery managers and staff will receive training and support to assess and improve physical activity and nutrition policies and practices. The control group will receive usual practice.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of a health systems intervention to strengthen management for latent tuberculosis infection in household contacts of confirmed tuberculosis cases. The results showed that a strategy of standardised evaluation, local decision making, and implementation of health systems strengthening activities effectively increased the number of household contacts initiating tuberculosis preventive treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the cost-effectiveness of treatment strategies guided by predicted lifetime benefit versus risk factor levels in patients with symptomatic atherosclerotic disease. The results showed that treatment based on lifetime benefit led to more CVD-free life years and more events avoided compared to risk factor-based treatment, indicating it is a potentially effective and cost-effective strategy for reducing residual CVD risk in these patients.

Cost-effectiveness of universal screening for chronic hepatitis B virus infection in China: an economic evaluation

Summary: This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of implementing universal hepatitis B virus (HBV) screening in China and identified the optimal screening strategy. The findings suggest that implementing the five-test universal screening strategy in the 18-70 age group within the next 10 years is the most cost-effective approach and can contribute to the prevention of HBV-related deaths.

Microsimulation Model to Determine the Cost-Effectiveness of Treat-to-Target Strategies for Ulcerative Colitis

Summary: This study utilized a microsimulation model to evaluate the cost effectiveness of monitoring strategies for UC patients, finding that a combination of symptom and biomarker-based monitoring had the highest QALY estimate, but symptom-based monitoring was the most cost-effective approach. Symptom-based monitoring was the preferred strategy in the majority of scenarios.

Summary: This study examined the impact of socioeconomic status on the cost-effectiveness of diabetes prevention policies. The findings suggest that policies targeting more disadvantaged populations require higher costs and achieve lower efficacy to be considered cost-effective. Future health economic models should incorporate measures of socioeconomic disadvantage to improve targeting of interventions.

Summary: The study found that vitamin D supplementation is cost-effective in preventing cardiovascular diseases in adolescents, with lower costs compared to CVD treatments. Therefore, implementing a vitamin D supplementation program can help reduce the risk of CVD in adulthood from an economic perspective.
