Summary: This study evaluated the reliability of hospital performance in lumbar fusion surgery for spondylolisthesis, focusing on 90-day inpatient costs, overall complications, and rates of serious complications. The results showed that 90-day inpatient costs are highly reliable for assessing variation across hospitals, while overall and serious complications are only moderately reliable for profiling performance.

Summary: This study investigated the mediating role of allostatic load in the association between educational status and coronary heart disease incidence among 25,310 men and 26,018 women. The results showed that allostatic load played a mediating role, with smoking, alcohol, and BMI having relatively small mediating effects.

Summary: This paper argues that human error amplified by premature maintenance (PRM) leads to increased frequency of maintenance activities, ultimately resulting in breakdowns and accidents. A novel methodology inspired by the proportional hazard model is proposed to monetize the impact of PRM on total maintenance cost. The findings suggest a noticeable contribution of PRM to total operating cost, justifying flight delays or cancellations to accommodate timely maintenance activities.

Summary: A study in California analyzed 91 consumer-grade PurpleAir indoor/outdoor monitor pairs over a 20-month period to estimate site-specific outdoor PM2.5 infiltration factors using a local polynomial regression method. The research identified a threshold for ambient PM2.5 concentration below which indoor sources significantly contributed to personal exposures.

Summary: This paper aims to develop a deteriorated bridge maintenance strategy that ensures the safe operation of steel structures and minimizes the total risk. Five common failure modes are considered and analyzed to determine the probability of failure. Risk-cost optimization is used to determine the maintenance strategy, and the effectiveness of the proposed methodology is validated through a working example.

Summary: By incorporating information on repeatedly redeemed prescriptions and redemptions of drug classes commonly used in pregnancy, this study aimed to reduce bias from exposure misclassification in assessing the effect of prenatal antidepressant-ADHDrelationship. The results did not support the hypothesis that prenatal antidepressant exposure increases the risk of ADHD.

Summary: Due to the development of deep learning algorithms, defect detection techniques based on deep neural networks have been widely used in industrial production. However, most existing models do not strictly distinguish between different defect categories, which can result in a cost-sensitive issue in the manufacturing process. To address this challenge, we propose a novel supervised classification cost-sensitive learning method and apply it to improve the YOLOv5 model as CS-YOLOv5. This approach introduces classification risk information into the detection model and achieves better performance in terms of cost and detection accuracy.

Summary: This study investigated different metrics for quantifying personal heat exposure and their associations with social risk factors. Findings revealed that time spent outside and income were the two risk factors most strongly associated with personal heat exposure. Continued efforts to study personal heat exposure, especially in combination with physiological indicators, were recommended to improve understanding of the links between ambient temperatures, social risk factors, and health outcomes.

Summary: Current research on the characteristics and predictors of movers is limited. In this study, we analyzed the ARIC cohort to identify important predictors of moving for different types of movers, and found that interaction between characteristics plays a crucial role. This work has important implications for epidemiological research and studies focusing on residential mobility as an exposure.

Summary: This study aimed to identify factors associated with SIM and suicide rate variation and assess the potential for suicide misclassification. The findings suggest that SIM rates are associated with modifiable, upstream factors, while suicide deviates unexpectedly. Further research is needed to understand the heterogeneity in medicolegal death investigation processes and data assurance.

Summary: Insurers and policy makers have created health care price transparency websites to reduce spending but have faced low use. An advertising campaign in New Hampshire led to a significant increase in website visits, but did not result in more consumers choosing lower-cost providers. The limited success of price transparency tools in reducing health care spending may be due to structural factors limiting consumers' ability to use price information.

Summary: During the pandemic, there was a significant increase in the use of telemedicine, but there were notable variations in usage across different populations and specialties. Telemedicine use was lower in communities with higher poverty rates and some medical specialties. Telemedicine was more commonly used for certain common conditions, and its usage for these conditions was associated with smaller decreases in total weekly visits during the pandemic.

Summary: This study explores the factors contributing to the variation in telehealth adoption in Queensland, Australia. It found that metropolitan areas with more telehealth use had greater investment, higher population referral areas, well-developed communication strategies, and better understanding of the value proposition of telehealth. In rural areas, telehealth activity was influenced by onboarding processes, clinician willingness, strategic challenges, and primary care activity.
