Summary: This study investigated the usefulness of urinary biomarkers in assessing bladder condition and histopathology in IC/BPS patients. The results show that urinary biomarker levels are associated with symptoms and pathological manifestations, helpful in identifying HIC and NHIC subtypes, but most biomarkers are not strongly correlated with specific bladder histopathological findings.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the expression levels of sensory receptors, inflammatory proteins, and pro-apoptotic proteins in the urothelium of non-Hunner's interstitial cystitis (NHIC) bladders of patients with different clinical and cystoscopic phenotypes. The study concluded that IC/BPS patients with frequency and bladder pain complaints have higher levels of urothelial sensory receptors, and inflammatory and pro-apoptotic proteins. The expression levels of these sensory receptors, inflammatory proteins, and pro-apoptotic proteins are not significantly different among IC/BPS bladders with different conditions.

Summary: This study used 16S rRNA sequencing and untargeted metabolomics techniques to analyze the urinary microbial and metabolite profiles of IC/BPS patients and healthy controls. The results showed differential genera and metabolites associated with the inflammatory response of IC/BPS, including Lactobacillus as a protective bacterium and Sphingomonas as a pathogenic factor. The metabolite theophylline may also play a role in downregulating the inflammatory response of IC/BPS.

Summary: Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a chronic bladder disorder characterized by suprapubic pain and discomfort during bladder filling, accompanied by lower urinary tract symptoms. The diagnosis of IC/BPS is still not standardized, but cystoscopy and bladder biopsy can determine the presence of ulcers. The pathophysiology of IC/BPS may involve chronic inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and other factors. Biomarkers in urine and serum specimens could be useful for the diagnosis of IC/BPS.

Summary: The study found that intravesical PRP injection is effective in relieving symptoms of IC/BPS patients, with slightly lower efficacy after a single high-dose PRP injection compared to four low-dose PRP injections. The addition of components and injection site did not significantly affect therapeutic outcomes.

Summary: Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a debilitating disease with a negative impact on quality of life. Diagnoses and treatments are still unsatisfactory, calling for new approaches. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of IC/BPS research, promoting progress in diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. The complexity of IC/BPS and emerging evidence call for further studies to optimize management.

Summary: IC/BPS is associated with increased risks of outpatient visits and hospitalizations, with patients having more overall OPD visits and higher IRRs in psychiatry, Chinese medicine, and emergency medicine; IRRs decrease with age, except for gynecology. Similar trends are observed in hospitalizations, with the deductive inference of ulcer type IC/BPS findings to non-ulcer types remaining inconclusive. Adequate recognition of associated factors and proper recommendations for IC/BPS patients can improve healthcare quality.

Summary: This study analyzed six prospective randomized trials, all of which involved short-term (1-2 weeks) stent placement after uncomplicated ureteroscopic lithotripsy. The meta-analysis showed that CIU-SP significantly reduced stent-related symptoms, with a significant effect on pain relief. CIU-SP is ready for clinical application based on the current evidence, at least for patients requiring short-term stent placement after uncomplicated ureteroscopic lithotripsy.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between post-transurethral enucleation of the prostate nadir prostate-specific antigen level and prostate cancer. The findings suggest that a post-operative nadir prostate-specific antigen level of >= 1.7 ng/ml predicts significant residual cancer, while patients with low post-operative levels can be managed conservatively.

Summary: JAK/STAT plays a key role in regulating UPEC infection in urothelial cells, and LCN2 pretreatment can dose-dependently suppress UPEC infections and downregulate TLR-4, STAT1, and STAT3 expression. LCN2 can alleviate UPEC infection by decreasing JAK/STAT pathway activation in a high-glucose environment.
