Summary: Disruption of the M-6-P pathway in HeLa cells by inactivation of the GNPTAB gene leads to missorting of cathepsin D and an increase in its expression. This increase in expression is independent of transcription factors TFEB and TFE3.

Summary: Urine NAG is associated with the severity of AKI in cirrhotic patients, and it is a useful predictor of 3-month transplant-free survival rate. However, it does not predict the response to terlipressin treatment in HRS patients.

Summary: In this paper, a fluorescent sensor based on PEG-400 modified and H2O2-assisted etched SQDs for the fast and sensitive detection of NAG is developed. By utilizing the IFE, the fluorescence of SQDs can be quenched by PNP generated through NAG-catalyzed hydrolysis of PNP-NAG. The method demonstrates a detection range for NAG activity from 0.4 to 7.5 U center dot L-1 with a detection limit of 0.1 U center dot L-1, and it shows high selectivity in detecting NAG activity in bovine serum samples, indicating its potential in clinical detection.

Summary: Children with diabetes, particularly those who are obese, have poor glycemic control and are at higher risk of early microvascular complications. This study investigated renal injury markers in children with diabetes according to obesity and found that urine N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) can be a useful indicator of tubulointerstitial damage in the pre-albuminuric state. Tighter glycemic control is crucial for preventing early progression to diabetic nephropathy.

Summary: Chitinolytic enzymes play a crucial role in the moulting process of crustaceans, and monitoring N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAGase) activity is an effective way to observe the moult cycle and differences between male and female specimens. The study found that NAGase activity levels significantly increase in the late premoult phase, providing insights into the moulting process.

Summary: This study assessed the association of exposure to TCE in underground water with oxidative stress and renal tubule damage. The results showed a positive correlation between the consumption of underground water and heightened urinary TCA levels, as well as a positive association between heightened urinary TCA levels and NAG levels, but a negative association with MDA levels. It is essential to eliminate the source of heightened TCE levels from industrial effluents, and residents exposed to TCE-laden underground water should undergo periodic health inspections.

Summary: Urinary NAG concentrations were detected and reference intervals were established for healthy adults in China using the rate method. The data showed a non-normal distribution and significant differences by sex and age, leading to the establishment of separate reference intervals for different gender and age groups.

Summary: This study determined the crystal structures of human lysozyme in its native and N-acetyl-alpha-D-glucosamine (alpha-D-NAG)-bound forms. The results revealed the interactions between human lysozyme and alpha-D-NAG, providing insights into the sugar recognition mechanism of human lysozyme during the immune response.

Summary: This study assessed the sensitivity of N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAGase) activity in Palaemon serratus to different compounds and found that four compounds specifically altered the activity of NAGase without affecting protein content. Three compounds showed non-specific alteration on both enzyme activity and protein content, while one compound exclusively affected protein content.

Summary: This study aims to find powerful risk predictors and identifying biomarkers in blood and urine for the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The results suggest that NAG/CR ratio is an independent predictor for advanced DKD and can also serve as a powerful identifying marker between early and advanced stages of DKD.

Summary: In this study, the CD-M6PR gene from Crassostrea hongkongensis was cloned and analyzed. It was found to be expressed in various tissues and involved in the immune response to Vibrio alginolyticus infection. The ChCD-M6PR gene plays a crucial role in the immune response of Crassostrea hongkongensis.

Summary: The dysfunction of lysosomes is a common feature in both rare lysosomal storage diseases and common age-related neurodegenerative diseases. A study found that CD22 is expressed in oligodendrocytes in the human brain and binds to sialic acid-dependent ligands on microglia. Interaction between sCD22 and IGF2R disrupts lysosomal protein trafficking, and interference with this interaction improved lysosome dysfunction in human NPC1 mutant cells.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the discriminative abilities of serum cystatin C (sCysC) and urinary N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (uNAG) in acute kidney injury (AKI) after total aortic arch replacement (TAAR). The results showed that incorporating sCysC and uNAG into the prediction model significantly improved its predictive ability, and the clinical utility and risk reclassification were also significantly improved. The study also found that sCysC and uNAG had the best discriminative abilities for AKI.
