microRNA-mediated translation repression through GYF-1 and IFE-4 in C. elegans development

Vinay K. Mayya, Mathieu N. Flamand, Alice M. Lambert, Seyed Mehdi Jafarnejad, James A. Wohlschlegel, Nahum Sonenberg, Thomas F. Duchaine

Summary: The study reveals GYF-1 and its direct interaction with IFE-4 as key miRNA effector proteins in C. elegans, leading to translation repression. Additionally, loss of gyf-1 was found to be synthetic lethal with hypomorphic alleles of certain miRNAs.

Chromosome organization in 4D: insights from C. elegans development

Ahilya N. Sawh, Susan E. Mango

Summary: Eukaryotic genome organization is ordered and can be remodeled during development. Animal model studies with high spatiotemporal resolution are necessary to understand the various forms and functions of genome organization in vivo. Recent findings in C. elegans include unexpected physiological roles for topologically associating domains, different roles for the nuclear lamina at different chromatin scales, cell-type-specific enhancer and promoter regulatory patterns, and prevalent compartment variability in early development.

Distinct, opposing functions for CFIm59 and CFIm68 in mRNA alternative polyadenylation of Pten and in the PI3K/Akt signalling cascade

Hsin-Wei Tseng, Anthony Mota-Sydor, Rania Leventis, Predrag Jovanovic, Ivan Topisirovic, Thomas F. Duchaine

Summary: This study reveals the direct regulation of Pten alternative polyadenylation (APA) by the mammalian cleavage factor I (CFIm) complex, impacting PTEN protein dosage and having widespread effects on APA in transcriptomes. Differential regulation of Pten APA by CFIm59 and CFIm68 is uncovered, with their divergent functions having broad impact on APA in transcriptomes.
