Summary: The study suggests that early outpatient follow-up after discharge in patients with congestive heart failure may improve long-term prognosis by reducing readmission rates and composite adverse outcomes. These positive outcomes appear to not be solely dependent on medication adjustments but on early modification of patient factors post-discharge.

Summary: This retrospective observational study using electronic health records data found that telemedicine visits did not significantly reduce 30-day hospital readmission rates compared to in-person visits. These findings suggest that telemedicine visits are a safe and viable alternative for post-hospitalization follow-up care.

Summary: This study investigated whether the existence of heart failure units (HFU) and link nurse units (LNU) in the hospital improve short-term outcomes of acute heart failure (AHF) episodes. The results showed that the complete development of these follow-up units was not associated with 30-day mortality but was associated with less prolonged hospitalization and fewer post-discharge adverse events.

Summary: An EMR-based appointment order for follow-up appointment scheduling was associated with increased cardiovascular medicine follow-up, but was not associated with an observed reduction in 30-day readmission rates.

Summary: This study found that factors associated with scheduling follow-up appointments before discharge include nonwhite race, history of chronic renal insufficiency, and no admission within 14 days before HF hospitalization. This suggests that appointment scheduling may be based on provider perceptions of readmission risk, and follow-up appointment practices should be based on systematic processes.

Summary: This study focused on the prognosis of heart failure (HF) in women who developed HF after receiving anthracyclines or trastuzumab for early stage breast cancer. The results showed that patients with cardiotoxic exposure had fewer comorbidities compared to age-matched controls, and those who developed HF after trastuzumab treatment had a better prognosis than HF controls.

Summary: In this study, the outcomes of recipients who received marginal donor hearts selected by dipyridamole stress echocardiography were compared to those who received acceptable donor hearts. The results showed that transplanting marginal donor hearts through a non-invasive bedside technique can alleviate the shortage of organs without affecting survival rates.

Summary: Hospitalized patients recovering from COVID-19 were characterized by a high prevalence of left ventricular concentric remodeling, predominantly Grade I diastolic dysfunction, and a mild decrease in the longitudinal systolic function. These changes were less frequent but still prevalent in the non-hypertensive subgroup and largely persisted throughout the 1-month follow-up.

Summary: This study investigated the prognostic impact of low serum albumin (LSA) in the remote phase after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) on long-term outcomes. The results showed that LSA after discharge was significantly associated with a higher risk of adverse outcomes, including hospitalization for heart failure and cardiovascular death.

Summary: This study found that low serum albumin (LSA) in the remote phase after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is significantly associated with long-term adverse outcomes, regardless of albumin status at admission.

Summary: This study found that catheter ablation (CA) performed within 90 days after hospital admission for heart failure (HF) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) was associated with improved long-term outcomes, including reduced cardiovascular and HF mortality.

Summary: The study evaluated the prognosis of patients receiving life-saving WCD shocks, showing a favorable survival for patients with WCD shocks and no SCD during follow-up for patients without an ICD recommendation after WCD prescription. This supports the practice of careful risk stratification before considering an ICD and using the WCD for temporary protection from SCD.
