Summary: This paper presents an a priori itinerary planning method that maximizes reliability by considering travel time uncertainty and backup plans. It introduces a network search algorithm that accurately accounts for travel time uncertainty and alternative options. The method is compared to a state-of-the-art contingency research approach and shown to calculate reliability more accurately, be more intuitive to travelers, and have a faster runtime. The study also highlights differences in reliability across different times, budgets, and regions in a real-world transit network in Gottingen, Germany.

Summary: Through genome-graph analysis and linked-read whole-genome sequencing, a distinct class of HR-deficiency-enriched rearrangements called reciprocal pairs was identified. These reciprocal pairs resulted in either copying and pasting of a small segment to a distant site or quasi-balanced translocation/inversion with substantial duplications. Single-strand annealing was found to be a repair pathway specific to BRCA2 deficiency. Integrating these features improved discrimination between BRCA1 and BRCA2 deficient genomes.

Summary: The key step in remanufacturing is disassembling the returned product, but challenges arise due to uncertainties in the condition of the cores. This research focuses on developing flexible sequencing of robotic disassembly with online recovery by incorporating backup actions. Through modeling the time and success rate of backup actions, a dual-objective optimization model for robotic disassembly sequence planning is established using a dual-selection multiobjective evolutionary algorithm.

Summary: Power outages are common in Pakistan, and consumers turn to alternative energy solutions when the cost of outages becomes too burdensome. This study explores the factors influencing consumers' choices of backup solutions based on perceptions using data from Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The analysis shows that perception-based variables, such as electricity theft and decreasing satisfaction, negatively affect the likelihood of selecting off-grid renewable options like solar technology. Homeownership significantly influences the adoption of backup choices, and rural-urban location does not affect the decision for solar energy systems.

Summary: This letter proposes a technique to reduce the computational complexity of wide-area backup protection (WABP) methods using sparse PMU measurements. The technique allows the system of equations for each candidate line to be obtained directly from the bus impedance matrix of the pre-fault power system, eliminating the need for multiple distinct bus impedance matrices. The proposed technique's applicability and effectiveness are verified through extensive simulations on the IEEE 39-bus test system.

Summary: The core concept behind Software Defined Networking (SDN) is to separate the control layer from the data layer, leading to improved network management and usage efficiency. Distributed multiple controller SDN environments are considered the preferred solution for scalability, but face issues like network failure due to controller failures. This paper proposes a reliable and survivable controller placement framework that determines the number and placement of primary controllers using node degree and deploys backup controllers efficiently. Experimental results demonstrate the significant impact of integrating both levels on SDN performance without introducing unacceptable delay times.

Summary: We investigate newsvendor models in which the primary supplier's production is subject to random capacity. To mitigate the supply risk, the retailer contracts with a reliable backup supplier to reserve capacity in advance and acquire the option to use it after delivery from the primary supplier and either before or after demand realization. We identify the conditions under which the use of the backup supplier is beneficial and determine the optimal order and reservation quantities, considering the impact of various model parameters.
