Summary: Bitumen extracted from Canada's oil sands is a unconventional crude oil that needs to be blended with light oil for transportation through pipelines. Canada is developing processes to reduce the diluent content of pipeline-transportable bitumen products. Investigations have been conducted on the aquatic behaviors of emerging PBPs, evaluating emulsification and dispersion tendencies after mixing with water.

Summary: In this article, a pipeline mapping method based on integrating multipositional pipeline data is proposed. The method utilizes a multisensor data acquisition platform and a scalable probability-based pipeline mapping model to accurately locate buried pipelines. The experimental results verify the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method for buried pipeline mapping.

Summary: In September 2022, three significant subsea leaks occurred in the Nord Stream pipelines, resulting in the release of approximately 225 kt of natural gas into the Baltic Sea. A combined model was developed to simulate the behavior of methane in the water, including the buoyant bubble plumes and the advection, dispersion, volatilization, and biodegradation processes. According to the simulations, the majority of the leaked methane was emitted into the atmosphere through gas bubble plumes, while a small portion initially dissolved in the water and led to extremely high concentrations. Over time, a significant amount of the dissolved methane volatilized and biodegraded, resulting in a decrease in water column concentration.

Summary: A novel method for extracting the proton radius from elastic electron-proton scattering data is presented, based on interpolation via continued fractions and statistical sampling without assuming a specific function form. Analysis of modern ep datasets shows consistent results, leading to r(p) = 0.847(8) fm by combining them, which compares favorably with values obtained from contemporary measurements in different spectroscopy.

Summary: From 2006 to 2018, there was a decline in the number of US-trained surgical residents pursuing transplant surgery, making it one of the least competitive fellowships. The study also found that nearly half of the transplant surgery fellows in the US came from a small percentage of general surgery residency programs, underscoring the need for efforts to increase interest in transplantation among US graduates.

Summary: This study found that operator experience has a significant impact on the complication and poor outcome rates of PED treatment. It also showed that a learning curve of 40 cases is required to achieve reproducibility in terms of complications and functional results. Furthermore, the study found that major complications and poor outcomes significantly decrease after the first 20 procedures. CUSUM analysis can serve as a useful tool for monitoring and assessing surgical performance.

Summary: Nine undescribed compounds and 21 known components were isolated from the fresh roots of Rehmannia glutinosa. The structures of these compounds were determined through spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute configurations of the undescribed compounds were determined by comparing calculated and experimental data. These compounds displayed slight inhibitory activities against α-glucosidase.

Summary: This report outlines the requirements for a Shigella vaccine and describes the current pipeline of research projects. Despite the existence of numerous vaccine candidates, no vaccine has been licensed yet for various reasons. Once the results of clinical trials among young children in low- and middle-income countries are available, the timeline for the licensure of the first Shigella vaccine will become clearer.
