ETS variant transcription factor 2 (ETV2) plays a role in pathological angiogenesis, but its role in the communication between ECs and VSMCs is unknown. CXCL5 induced by ETV2 in ECs promotes VSMC migration through MMP upregulation and the activation of Akt and p38/c-Jun.

Different mechanisms such as paracrine regulations and direct contact play a role in this interplay.

Summary: Cell death and the clearance of apoptotic cells are regulated by signaling molecules. Abnormal clearance of apoptotic cells is associated with various health complications and diseases. During this process, phagocytic cells and/or apoptotic cells release signals to promote engulfment of apoptotic cells. In addition to macrophages and dendritic cells, other cell types such as endothelial cells and fibroblasts can also engulf apoptotic cells, although at a slower rate. This review focuses on the macrophage efferocytosis of vascular cells and its relation to cardiovascular disease, emphasizing the importance of efferocytosis-related molecules in maintaining vascular homeostasis.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the vasodilatory effects and cytotoxicity of various vasodilators used as antispasmodic agents during microsurgical anastomosis. The results showed that lidocaine, papaverine, and nitroglycerin had vasodilatory effects but also exhibited cytotoxicity, while phentolamine and olprinone showed antispasmodic effects without cytotoxicity. The concentrations of the vasodilators required for vasodilation were lower than the reported clinical concentrations.
