Summary: In this study, 20 phytochemical compounds from Orthosiphon stamineus Benth were analyzed for their potential as anti-diabetic drugs. Among them, 14-Dexo-14-O-acetylorthosiphol Y showed the highest affinity for SGLT2 and satisfied the Lipinski rule of 5. It also had good ADMET properties and was non-toxic and non-mutagenic. The study suggests that 14-Dexo-14-O-acetylorthosiphol Y holds promise as a potent anti-diabetic drug.

Summary: The study demonstrated the neuroprotective potential of Orthosiphon stamineus leaf proteins (OSLPs) in SH-SY5Y cells challenged by hydrogen peroxide. OSLPs were found to be safe and significantly increased cell survival and improved cell architecture in a concentration-dependent manner. OSLPs may exert their neuroprotective effects through modulating interleukin-4 and interleukin-13 pathways, regulating inflammation, and modulating HSP-regulated estrogen receptor pathways to counteract cellular damage induced by heat shock proteins under stress conditions.

Summary: In this study, a total of 34 phytochemical components were detected in the OSB extract using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. Core constituents including tanshinone IIA, sinensetin, salvianolic acid B, rosmarinic acid, and salvigenin were screened out as efficacy markers of OSB, providing a promising direction for future research on the quality control and pharmacological mechanism of OSB.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of various stress factors on somaclonal variation in in vitro grown O. stamineus plantlets. The exposure to high salinity, abscisic acid, and high cytokinin concentrations resulted in the occurrence of somaclonal variation, with hyperhydricity being the most prominent variant. The chlorophyll content and photosynthetic ability of the plantlets were reduced with increasing abiotic stress levels.

Summary: This research compared the efficacy of water and ethanolic extracts of Ocimum aristatum as inhibitors and antioxidants, and found that the water extract exhibited superior activity. The major active compounds identified in the extract were fatty acids, phenolic groups, flavonoids, and carboxylic acids. The study also found that the water extract was non-toxic to zebrafish embryos.

Summary: The main challenge for greenhouse design is creating environment-appropriate greenhouses, especially in tropical regions. Using photovoltaic modules on the greenhouse roof can reduce radiation and temperature levels while improving energy consumption. Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) offer a transparent, low light-sensitive, and color variety option for energy buildings. This study evaluates the microclimate conditions in a greenhouse with semi-transparent DSSC, impacting growth responses of plants and aiding in designing PV greenhouses for income generation.

Summary: This study evaluated the cytoprotective, anti-mutagenic, and anticlastogenic activities of standardized Orthosiphon stamineus extract. The extract showed potent scavenging effects on hydrogen peroxide and other free radicals, stimulated glutathione production in liver cells, and exhibited powerful antimutagenic activities. Cytogenetic tests showed reduced mitotic and replicative indices without any chromosomal abnormalities or sister chromatid exchange. Pretreatment with the extract proved to be an efficient protocol in ameliorating the effects of mitomycin C.

Summary: This study demonstrates that ethanolic extract of Orthosiphon stamineus sensitizes pancreatic cancer cells to gemcitabine by reducing multidrug-resistant proteins and molecules related to epithelial-mesenchymal transition. On the other hand, the combination of rosmarinic acid and gemcitabine did not show additional effects on cellular senescence or apoptosis.
