Summary: The study aimed to investigate the chemical composition, antioxidant properties, and antiproliferative activities of Eclipta prostrata extracts. The results showed that the ethyl acetate extract of E. prostrata exhibited significantly greater antioxidant activities, higher phenol and flavonoid contents compared to other extracts. In addition, the ethyl acetate extract of E. prostrata had potential antiproliferative properties against cancer cells and induced apoptosis through the alteration of gene expression.

Summary: This review summarizes the traditional uses, phytoconstituents, and biological activities of Eclipta prostrata, a medicinal plant widely used in tropical and subtropical regions. The active phytochemicals of E. prostrata include coumestan derivatives, phenolic acid derivatives, flavonoids, triterpenoid and steroid saponins, and substituted thiophenes. Studies on the detailed mechanism and clinical effects of these phytoconstituents are necessary for future research.

Summary: This study investigated the biosynthetic route of bioactive compounds from Eclipta prostrata (L.) L. hairy roots using feeding experiments with labeled precursors. The findings suggest that coumestans are derived from acetate and shikimate pathways, while phenylpropanoid biosynthesis is exclusively from the shikimate pathway.

Summary: The study evaluated the effect of jasmonic acid or methyl jasmonate on production of wedelolactone, demethylwedelolactone, and 3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid in hairy root cultures of Eclipta prostrata (L.) L.C19 clone. The results showed a significant increase in production of these compounds after treatment with jasmonic acid. The data validate the potential of Eclipta prostrata (L.) L. hairy root cultures as a production system for compounds with potential anti-Covid-19 activity.
