The relevance of these findings was highlighted by demonstrating altered expression of human orthologous genes to the CDX2-responsive genes in human malignancies.

Summary: This study assessed the effects of NRG1 on oocyte nuclear maturation, cumulus expansion, and mRNA expression during IVM, as well as post-IVF embryo development in cattle. The results showed that NRG1 enhanced oocyte developmental competence and embryo development without affecting cumulus expansion. It is the first study to report the modulatory effect of NRG1 during oocyte maturation in a mono-ovulatory species and the potential for improving post-IVF embryo development.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of low ethanol exposure on bovine oocytes. The results showed that even concentrations as low as 0.1% ethanol during in vitro maturation significantly affected oocyte metabolism and histone configuration of embryos. Ethanol exposure increased mitochondrial DNA copy number and protein levels, blastulation rate, ATP content and membrane potential, while decreasing lipid content and glucose consumption.

Summary: This study investigates the use of a novel zinc chelator for activating bovine and porcine oocytes. The results show that the zinc chelator can successfully induce blastocyst development in both species, although developmental rates and embryo quality are compromised in bovine compared to calcium-induced embryos. On the contrary, the new concentration and incubation time of the zinc chelator improve developmental rates in porcine without affecting embryo quality. These findings contribute to understanding the role of zinc in oocyte activation and preimplantation embryo development across different mammalian species.
