Summary: This study investigates the phylogeography and evolutionary relationships of the Military Macaw using mitochondrial DNA variability. The results suggest that the Mexican subspecies has a distinct evolutionary history and should be considered as a separate evolutionary significant and management unit.

Summary: This study presented the clinical appearance and histopathologic findings of a rare ocular neoplasm in a hybrid macaw. Although uncommon in psittacine birds, primary ocular melanocytic neoplasms may exhibit features of malignancy, including scleral or orbital invasion, or both.

Summary: This study investigates nest-site selection and the effect of nest-site features on reproductive success in the critically endangered Great Green Macaw in northern Costa Rica. The study reveals that Great Green Macaws choose nest-sites based on cavity and tree characteristics, and reproductive success is influenced by certain cavity features. However, the availability of high-quality cavities, associated with higher reproductive success, is potentially limited.

Summary: The western honey bee is an ecologically and economically important pollinator species, but it faces challenges due to human interference. To protect genetic diversity, we studied honey bee populations in Serbia and found a relatively homogenous population. However, there are still local differences and the predominance of admixture populations in human-dominated areas.

Summary: The study found that in Hispaniolan Amazon parrots, the pharmacokinetics of CBD were highly variable with a short half-life even at high doses. This suggests that the drug formulation was inconsistent in achieving targeted concentrations.

Summary: Reintroducing apprehended wild animals into their natural environment is a complex process that involves rehabilitating individuals and ensuring viable populations for reproduction, with careful consideration of the male-female ratio. Sex identification in species without discernible sexual dimorphisms can be challenging, such as the Amazona aestiva, where techniques often involve molecular or surgical procedures. The study found no significant correspondence between sex indication based on direct observation of iris color dichromatism and molecular sexing results, highlighting the difficulty in sex identification in certain species.

Summary: The Military Macaw faces serious conservation threats, and genetic markers can help identify their geographic origin to improve management programs. By using reference genotypes, a study successfully determined the geographic origin of captive individuals and positive control individuals. Genetic markers are a promising tool for determining origin and improving conservation programs for illegally traded animals.

Summary: Endogenous lipid pneumonia is a rare lung disease characterized by the accumulation of endogenous lipids in alveolar macrophages. This case highlights the need to better understand the relationships between various disorders of lipid metabolism in psittacine birds.

Summary: The study on Atlantic Forest White Morpho butterflies shows that there is no clear species diversification and population structure among the populations, suggesting that the current distinction between the two species is unreasonable. Northern samples exhibit more intragroup structure, and clustering tests indicate the existence of three genetic clusters, with turnover between the states of Paran ' a and Sa similar to o Paulo.

Summary: This study aimed to understand the effects of time, forest and savanna availability, and rainfall on the number of nestlings and fledglings of Blue-fronted Amazons in the southern Pantanal. The results showed that arboreal habitat availability directly and positively affected the number of fledglings, while time and rainfall had indirect negative and positive effects on the number of fledglings, respectively. Additionally, a concerning decrease in fledglings was observed during the 22-year study, which could impact the conservation status of the species.

Summary: The Red-fronted Macaw, endemic to Bolivia, has faced difficulties in collecting reliable data on its global, local, and breeding population sizes due to the remote and inaccessible nature of its habitat. However, recent surveys have shown a decline in population, with an estimated global population size of 1160 macaws and a breeding population fraction of 23.8-27.4%. The surveys also discovered four new breeding areas. Based on the new data, the Red-fronted Macaw should be downlisted from 'Critically Endangered' to 'Endangered' status.

Summary: The blue-fronted Amazon parrot is a popular pet bird in Brazil, and a study described the normal anatomy of its head, which can contribute to future comparative morphology studies and clinical practice. High-quality CT images are essential for identifying and detailing most head structures, and multiplanar reconstruction is a useful tool for complete visualization of the head. However, conventional CT images are not sufficient for visualizing the inner ear and related structures, as well as the paratympanic sinus.

Summary: This study detected virulence-associated genes in E. coli strains isolated from the Red-browed Amazon parrot in Brazil. The results showed high genetic variability in virulence and identified the presence of virulence genes commonly associated with pathotypes of human origin. These findings suggest that these parrot strains could serve as reservoirs of virulence-associated genes and potentially impact human health.
