Summary: The study found that rutin exhibited dose-dependent anti-proliferative effects on Caski cervical cancer cells, inducing significant apoptosis through caspase-3/9 activation, ROS generation, and alteration in Bax/Bcl2 mRNA expression. Cell cycle analysis showed G0/G1 phase arrest associated with reduced expression of CDK4 and Cyclin D1. Gene expression analysis indicated that rutin treatment decreased Notch-1 and Hes-1 mRNA expression levels.

Summary: Translation:
In ovarian cancer, targeting Musashi RNA-binding proteins (MSI) may increase therapeutic efficacy by affecting CSC and cell cycle gene expression, metabolic activity, and chemo- and radioresistance. Database analyses revealed associations between MSI proteins and key genes, supporting the potential of MSI dual knockdown to impede tumor growth and sensitize cancer cells to therapy.

Summary: Colorectal cancer (CRC) can be effectively inhibited by Isoalantolactone (IATL) through regulating cell cycle, apoptosis, and autophagy in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistic studies revealed that IATL induces cytoprotective autophagy in CRC cells by inhibiting the AKT/mTOR signaling pathway.

Summary: The study demonstrated that gallotannin (GT) can inhibit lung metastasis of metastatic colorectal cancer cells by inducing apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and autophagic cell death, as well as regulating PI3K/AKT/mTOR and AMPK signaling pathways. GT also suppresses migration and invasion of CRC cells by inhibiting the expression and activity of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9, and downregulating mesenchymal markers including snail, twist, and vimentin.

Summary: The study found that dehydroevodiamine (DHE) has potential therapeutic effects on lung metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC) and proliferation of CRC cells. DHE suppresses cell viability, induces apoptosis and autophagy, and regulates cell migration and invasion.

Summary: This study demonstrates the cytotoxic effect of ML323 on esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cells and elucidates its underlying mechanisms. ML323 inhibits the growth of ESCC cells by blocking the cell cycle, inducing DNA damage, and triggering apoptosis through the p53-Noxa pathway. Additionally, ML323 stimulates autophagy in cells, and co-treatment with autophagy inhibitors enhances its cytotoxicity.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of metformin in combination with resveratrol and cisplatin on MCF-7 cells. The results showed that metformin inhibited cell proliferation, while resveratrol suppressed proliferation through induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. The triple combination of metformin, resveratrol, and cisplatin exhibited a significant inhibitory effect through the induction of autophagy-mediated cell death, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest. These findings support the anti-cancer properties of metformin and resveratrol, and suggest their potential synergistic effects in combination therapy.

Summary: Pro-inflammatory cytokines promote iron-import in pancreatic beta-cells through upregulation of divalent metal transporter-1 (DMT1), leading to cell death. Silencing of DMT1 protects against apoptosis in diabetes animal models by reversing IL-1 beta-induced phosphosites levels and inactivating autophagic flux, potentially improving beta-cell functions. This study sheds light on the signal transduction pathways involved in protecting beta-cells against inflammation-induced cell death after DMT1 silencing.

Summary: Oxyfluorfen, a phenoxy phenyl-type herbicide, has a significant cytotoxic effect on bovine mammary epithelial cells (MAC-T) by decreasing cell viability, increasing apoptotic cells, and suppressing cell cycle progression. It also induces intercellular signaling changes and inflammatory gene expression in MAC-T. These findings suggest that oxyfluorfen may ultimately harm humans through its detrimental effects on milk production in cows.

Summary: In this study, the effects of Docetaxel (Doc) on non-small cell lung cancer and the formation of polyploid giant cancer cells (PGCCs) were investigated. It was found that Doc induced cell cycle arrest and cell death, but some cells survived and transformed into PGCCs. The PGCCs exhibited senescence features and showed increased expression of p21 and p-histone H2A.X. Furthermore, the mRNA level of IL-1β in the senescence-associated secretory phenotype was significantly increased with the development of PGCCs. Inhibition of IL-1β reduced p-histone H2A.X expression and promoted polyploidy, enhancing the proapoptotic effect of Doc. Thus, targeting IL-1β in PGCCs could be a potential approach to overcome drug resistance.
