Summary: This study aimed to investigate novel genetic variants associated with the variability of warfarin dose in the Korean population. The results showed that VKORC1, NKX2-6 rs310279, FRAS1 rs4386623, and FAM201A rs1890109 were associated with stable warfarin dose requirement. The study highlighted the importance of both genetic and non-genetic factors in the variability of warfarin dose.

Summary: The study found differences in mutation profiles between GC and GA, with GC cases having more mutated genes and higher allele frequencies. Common driver mutations were more prevalent in GC cases as well. The accumulation of mutant burden was shown to contribute to the progression from GA to GC, regardless of gene type. Overall, these findings are important in elucidating the molecular pathogenesis of gastric cancer.

Summary: This study found that MSLN plays a cancer-promoting role in gastric cancer. Additionally, rs3764247 and rs3764246 were associated with a reduced risk of gastric cancer. It was also observed that rs3764247 was closely related to T stage, vascular infiltration, and HER2 expression. Furthermore, patients with rs3764247 CC genotype had poorer survival compared to patients with AA + AC genotype.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of a cancer screening program on the long-term survival of gastric cancer patients in Korea. The results show that screened patients have a higher survival rate compared to never-screened patients. Specifically, patients who underwent upper endoscopy had a lower risk of gastric cancer-specific mortality compared to those who underwent upper gastrointestinal series. Furthermore, patients who were screened within 2 years before diagnosis had a 35% reduction in gastric cancer death risk.

Summary: Kinship testing using genetic markers is crucial for forensic analysis. Short tandem repeats (STRs) have high discriminatory power but are not suitable for determining extended distant or complex relationships. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are considered promising tools due to their low mutation rates and small amplicon sizes.

Summary: The incidence of cancer development after cholecystectomy remains debatable, with overall cancer rates similar between cholecystectomy patients and the general population, but younger patients who underwent cholecystectomy are at a higher risk. Particularly, incidences of colorectal cancer and liver cancer were higher in cholecystectomy patients across all age groups and genders.

Summary: The PRS-112 derived from SNPs does not show a significant association with gastric cancer risk in the European population, while the fPRS-125 constructed based on functional SNPs is significantly associated with gastric cancer risk. The combination of fPRS-125 and lifestyle factors improves the prediction of gastric cancer risk.

Summary: In a representative population-based study in Korea, menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) was found to be inversely associated with the risk of gastric cancer (GC) and colorectal cancer (CRC). Estrogen replacement therapy (ERT), regardless of other regimen types, was found to have a protective effect against GC, CRC, and gastrointestinal cancer (GI). Both estrogen and combined estrogen and progestogen regimens were significantly associated with CRC and GI cancer.

Summary: This study investigates the association between obesity and self-rated oral health (SROH) in Korean adults. The results show a J-shaped association between BMI and poor SROH, with the highest risk in the underweight group among men and the obese-III group among women. Additionally, underweight and obesity were associated with poorer SROH in men and women over 65 years of age.

Summary: In this study, the researchers found that polygenic risk scores derived from breast cancer risk-associated single-nucleotide variations (SNVs) had similar predictive performance in Asian and European women. Including non-genetic risk factors in the models further improved prediction accuracy. These findings support the utility of these models in developing personalized screening and prevention strategies.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in the working status of cancer survivors after diagnosis and identified socio-demographic, clinical, work-related, and psychological factors associated with these changes. The findings showed that factors such as gender, family income, and occupation were associated with discontinuing work after cancer diagnosis. Clinical characteristics such as advanced-stage cancer and cancer recurrence were associated with taking leave of absence and discontinuing work. Additionally, work-related and psychological factors such as job stress, interpersonal conflict, and lack of meaning in work were also associated with discontinuing work.

Summary: This study used Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to evaluate the causal association between serum bilirubin level and atrial fibrillation (AF). The results showed that while the observational analysis found an association between elevated bilirubin levels and increased AF risk, the MR analysis did not find such correlation. Therefore, the observed association between serum bilirubin levels and AF may be non-causal and influenced by reverse causality or unmeasured confounding.
