Survivin is involved in multiple signaling mechanisms in tumor maintenance, and accumulated studies elucidate that knockdown of survivin in endothelial cells could inhibit angiogenesis; however, the role of survivin in tumor cells to regulate tumor-derived angiogenesis remains largely unclear. In the present study 80 cases of brain glioma were chosen and protein expressions of survivin, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) in glioma cells were investigated by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) were cocultured with human glioma U251 wild-type cells, U251 cells survivin silenced, SHG44 wild-type cells, and SHG44 survivin-overexpressing cells, respectively. The proliferation and migration of HUVEC were evaluated by MTT assay and transwell chamber assay. The microvessels density (MVD) marked by CD31 expression in vascular endothelial cells in glioma xenografts in nude mice was detected by IHC. VEGF, bFGF, and PDGF in the aforementioned cells were detected by quantitive PCR (qPCR), Western blot, ELISA, and IHC in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that VEGF immunoreactivity score (IRS), bFGF IRS, and PDGF IRS were all positively correlated with survivin IRS in gliomas, respectively (P?

Zengjie Chi, Yanyun Lin, Juanni Huang, Min-Yi Lv, Junguo Chen, Xijie Chen, Bin Zhang, Yufeng Chen, Jiancong Hu, Xiaosheng He, Ping Lan

Summary: This study aimed to identify risk factors for the recurrence of colorectal polyps and its subtypes. It found that male gender, age, obesity, multiple polyps, smoking, alcohol consumption, and family history of polyps/CRC were associated with a higher risk of polyp recurrence. Additionally, it found that smoking, alcohol consumption, and family history of polyps/CRC were risk factors for adenoma recurrence but not for serrated polyp recurrence.

Predicting prognosis and immunotherapy response among colorectal cancer patients based on a tumor immune microenvironment-related lncRNA signature

Summary: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulate tumor-infiltrating immune cells and reshape the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in colorectal cancer (CRC). A signature of CRC TIME-related lncRNAs (TRLs) was developed to predict prognosis and immunotherapy response. The TRLs signature can stratify CRC patients and provide valuable information for immunotherapy treatment.

GBP2 as a potential prognostic predictor with immune-related characteristics in glioma

Ren Li, Yuan-Yuan Wang, Shu-Le Wang, Xue-Peng Li, Yang Chen, Zi-Ao Li, Jian-Hang He, Zi-Han Zhou, Jia-Yu Li, Xiao-Long Guo, Xiao-Gang Wang, Yong-Qiang Wu, Ye-Qing Ren, Wen-Ju Zhang, Xiao-Man Wang, Geng Guo

Summary: GBP2 expression is increased in glioma tissues and is associated with worse prognosis in glioma patients. The expression of GBP2 is related to immune infiltration and immunomodulators. Single-cell analysis confirms the high expression of GBP2 in malignant glioma cells, which has high antigen presentation capability. Predicted regulators hsa-mir-26b-5p and hsa-mir-335-5p are validated in the experiment.

Linc-ROR drive adriamycin resistance by targeting AP-2α/Wnt/β-catenin axis in hepatocellular carcinoma

Chuan-Jian Shi, Min-Yi Lv, Li-Qiang Deng, Wei-Qiang Zeng, Wei-Ming Fu, Jin-Fang Zhang

Summary: This study found that linc-ROR, a long intergenic non-protein-coding RNA, promotes tumorigenesis and adriamycin resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma through activating the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway. It suggests that linc-ROR could be a potential therapeutic target for adriamycin-resistant patients.

The combined transarterial and transvenous onyx embolization of dural arteriovenous fistula of hypoglossal canal via the external jugular vein and facial vein: A case report

Biao Yang, Yeqing Ren, Yongqiang Wu, Wenju Zhang, Yanqi Sun, Xiaolong Guo, Ming Lv, Geng Guo

Summary: This article reports a rare case of hypoglossal canal dural arteriovenous fistulas (HCDAVF) where transvenous embolization through the internal jugular vein (IJV) was not feasible. The patient underwent successful transarterial and transvenous onyx embolization using external jugular vein (EJV) and facial vein as access points. This technique may serve as an effective alternative when trans-IJV access is not possible.

CEBPD is a master transcriptional factor for hypoxia regulated proteins in glioblastoma and augments hypoxia induced invasion through extracellular matrix-integrin mediated EGFR/PI3K pathway

Xing-gang Mao, Xiao-yan Xue, Rui Lv, Ang Ji, Ting-yu Shi, Xiao-yan Chen, Xiao-fan Jiang, Xiang Zhang

Summary: Hypoxia plays a critical role in glioblastoma by regulating the hypoxia-regulated genes (HRGs) network. CEBPD is identified as a key transcription factor that regulates a large number of hypoxia-regulated proteins (HRPs) and HRGs. CEBPD is up-regulated in glioblastoma and high levels are associated with poor prognosis. CEBPD activates the EGFR/PI3K pathway through ECM, particularly FN1-mediated EGFR phosphorylation.

The Role of Hypoxia and Cancer Stem Cells in Development of Glioblastoma

Tingyu Shi, Jun Zhu, Xiang Zhang, Xinggang Mao

Summary: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a highly malignant brain tumor characterized by a small population of glioblastoma stem-like cells (GSCs) that possess self-renewal, proliferative, invasive, and tumorigenic capabilities, leading to radio- and chemoresistance. Hypoxia inducible factors (HIFs) play a crucial role in the maintenance and progression of GSCs. This review summarizes the roles of hypoxia-associated GSCs in GBM development, including hypoxia-induced signatures, genes, pathways, and metabolic alterations. The concept of the hypoxic peri-arteriolar niche of GSCs is discussed. Autophagy and potential causes of therapeutic resistance in GBM are explored, along with chemotherapeutic agents to enhance the effectiveness of chemo-, radio-, or immunotherapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is proposed as an adjuvant therapy to reverse the hypoxic microenvironment in GBM. Overall, understanding the intricate interactions between hypoxia and GSCs can lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies to improve GBM patient survival.

Summary: In this study, an in vitro bioprinted 3D glioma model was proposed to simulate the natural glioma. Neurons could promote the proliferation of glioma cells and induce morphological changes in glioma cells to be neuron-like. Glioma cells, on the other hand, could maintain neuronal survival and promote neurite outgrowth.

Efficacy of Amiodarone on the Heart Failure Patients with Arrhythmia

Mingyi Lv, X. F. Long

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy of amiodarone on heart failure patients with arrhythmia. The study found that the effectiveness rate of patients in the observation group, who received amiodarone in addition to regular medication, was significantly higher than that of the control group. There was no significant difference in the incidence rates of adverse reactions between the two groups. Amiodarone is safe and efficient in improving heart function and efficacy in heart failure patients with arrhythmia.
