They also discovered that a protein called Activin A is secreted from breast tumors and promotes fibrosis in the lung, which enhances metastasis. This new mechanism could potentially be targeted for therapeutic intervention to inhibit metastatic relapse.

Summary: This study reveals that interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-13 (IL-13) play a critical role in post-ischemic angiogenesis. Deficiency of IL-4/IL-13 leads to impaired reperfusion and muscle repair in ischemic muscles. Mechanistically, IL-4/IL-13 promote endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and tube formation through the IL-4Ra/STAT6 signaling pathway. Additionally, decreased expression of IL-4/IL-13 is associated with angiogenesis deficit in diabetic peripheral arterial disease (PAD), while IL-4/IL-13 treatment can rescue this defective regeneration.

The study also highlighted the involvement of c-Jun and c-Fos in the molecular mechanism of KS pathogenesis.
