Summary: Otolaryngology residents perceive a suboptimal safety climate regarding duty hour compliance issues, and there is an inverse relationship between fatigue and modified SCS scores, indicating that fatigue may be lower in programs where residents prioritize ACGME duty hour compliance.

Summary: Interviews are critical in the neurosurgery resident application process, but the COVID-19 pandemic has led to virtual interview activities. To evaluate noncognitive attributes and program compatibility, a standardized interviewer survey was implemented. The survey showed no differences in scores between faculty and resident reviewers, but female reviewers gave higher overall scores than male reviewers. Overall, the standardized survey proved to be a feasible and reliable method for evaluating noncognitive attributes during neurosurgery residency interviews, with no perceptible evidence of sex bias.

Summary: This study found a significant moderate correlation between medical knowledge relevant to radiology practice and clinical productivity during radiology residency. Factors such as clinical productivity, gender of the radiology resident, and postgraduate year were independently associated with DRPT percentile scores. These findings suggest that clinical productivity of a resident could be a relevant metric in a radiology training program.

Summary: Assessing trainees' surgical proficiency is important in urological surgical training. The current standard, Urology Milestone Project, has limitations and lacks real-time operative feedback. There are multiple competency-based surgical assessment tools available, and a comprehensive review of the literature is needed to analyze their strengths and weaknesses for further development of a standardized assessment tool in urology training.

Summary: This study aimed to assess residents' perceptions of fatigue and safety climate specific to work-hour restrictions. The results showed an inverse relationship between duty-hour climate and fatigue, indicating higher levels of fatigue among residents in programs where ACGME duty-hour compliance was perceived to be less important.

Summary: This study surveyed dermatology residency program directors and assistant/associate program directors to assess the current landscape of ethics training in US dermatology residency programs. The results showed that most programs did not have a dedicated ethics curriculum, and among those that did, the majority implemented it within the last ten years. Formal didactics and ad hoc teaching during clinical encounters were the most common settings for ethics education. Lack of time, lack of faculty expertise, and lack of useful resources were identified as barriers to implementing and maintaining an ethics curriculum. These findings highlight the need for increased emphasis on ethics training in US dermatology residency programs.

Summary: The study described the initial implementation of the SIMPL app in pediatric urology rotation, the first among urology residencies, and provided preliminary data on its adoption by residents and faculty. Results showed that the application improved both frequency and quality of resident operative feedback, with positive feedback from both faculty and residents, indicating it was preferred over existing feedback systems.

Summary: The study surveyed program directors for 572 internship and residency programs, finding that the most important criteria for evaluating applicants were letters of reference, interview, curriculum vitae, and cover letter. While class rank and overall grade point average are considered, they are not deemed as critical as the aforementioned criteria for both internship and residency programs.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant changes in the dermatology residency application process, leading to a need for increased transparency. A study was conducted to assess the transparency of dermatology residency program websites in various aspects. The results indicate that there are shortcomings in information dissemination, selection criteria, interview process, program priorities, and program requirements and opportunities. There is room for improvement in enhancing website transparency to better assist applicants in navigating the process.

Summary: Recent calls for increased transparency in dermatology residency programs have highlighted the importance of program websites and their mission statements. A study examined the mission statements of all ACGME-accredited dermatology residencies, finding that 46.15% of programs included at least one mission statement category on their websites. "Mission" was the most commonly used category (39.85%), while "vision" was the least (3.01%). Word overlap was observed across categories, with "care" being a top word in every category. Explicitly stating program missions can benefit both programs and applicants in aligning career goals.
