Summary: This study analyzed the impact of lymphaticovenular anastomosis on surgical outcomes for lymphedema in the upper and lower extremities, finding that increasing the number of anastomoses did not improve the effectiveness of LVA. It also concluded that LVA may be useful for both early and advanced stages of lymphedema.

Summary: This study investigated the efficacy of lymphaticovenular anastomosis (LVA) on the posterior side of the lower leg for the treatment of primary lymphedema. The results showed that performing LVA on the posterior side in addition to the anterior and medial sides resulted in further improvement of lower extremity lymphedema with a reduced number of anastomoses.

Summary: A retrospective analysis of 70 patients with lymphedema who underwent lymphaticovenular anastomosis (LVA) surgery showed that LVA is a safe and effective method for reducing lymphedema severity, especially in early-stage upper extremity lymphedema. The mean number of lymphovenous bypasses was 3.9 and the reduction in limb volume at 3, 6, and 12 months was significant, with early-stage patients showing higher volume reductions compared to late-stage patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the smooth muscle function of lymph vessels using preoperative lymphoscintigraphy images and investigated the outcomes of lymphaticovenular anastomosis (LVA) for lower extremity lymphedema. The results showed that LVA can effectively reduce the circumference of the lower limb. The findings in lymphoscintigraphy could be used to predict the effect of LVA and guide patient selection.

Summary: The study evaluated a supermicrosurgical anastomosis method using the suture-stent technique for lymphaticovenular anastomosis (LVA) in patients with lower extremity lymphedema. Results showed a higher success rate and less leakage or occlusion with the suture-stent technique compared to the conventional technique. This technique, with minimal risk of complications, can be considered an optimal option for LVA.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of lymphaticovenular anastomosis (LVA) with conservative treatment for early-stage lower extremity lymphedema (LEL). The results showed that LVA surgery significantly reduced edema, while conservative treatment only maintained the edema.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of obesity/overweight on the development of breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) at different time points after surgery in Chinese breast cancer survivors. The results showed that patients with a preoperative BMI >= 25 kg/m(2) had a significantly higher occurrence of lymphedema compared to those with a preoperative BMI < 25 kg/m(2), especially at 6-12 and 12-18 months after surgery. Multivariable logistic regression analysis confirmed that a preoperative BMI >= 30 kg/m(2) was significantly associated with an increased risk of lymphedema. In conclusion, preoperative obesity is an independent risk factor for BCRL in Chinese breast cancer survivors.

Summary: The consensus conference conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on surgical treatment and prevention of upper and lower extremity lymphedema, finding evidence to support the effectiveness of lymphovenous anastomosis and vascular lymph node transplantation in reducing severity. However, there is no consensus on which procedure is more effective. Prophylactic lymphovenous bypass may reduce the incidence of lymphedema, and debulking procedures like liposuction are effective in addressing nonfluid components of lymphedema.

Summary: The long-term impact of VLNT and LVB surgeries on secondary lymphedema patients was examined in this study. The results showed that most UEL patients and some LEL patients experienced a reduction in affected limb volume after surgery. UEL patients had a more substantial reduction in limb volume differential compared to LEL patients.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) in assessing the outcomes of lymphaticovenular anastomosis (LVA) in patients with breast cancer-related lymphedema. The results showed a strong correlation between segmental multifrequency BIA and circumferential volume measurement before and after LVA. Therefore, segmental multifrequency BIA can be a useful tool for evaluating lymphedema severity and monitoring the effectiveness of LVA.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of supermicrosurgical lymphaticovenular anastomosis (LVA) in the treatment of lower extremity lymphedema (LEL) secondary to pelvic lymphadenectomy (PL) in early-stage gynecological cancer. The preoperative assessment and proper placement of incision sites were found to be key factors in achieving favorable outcomes after LVA.

Summary: The study presents the author's 20-year experience in facial paralysis reconstruction, including techniques and key concepts to guide the selection of appropriate surgical methods. Preferred techniques for unilateral facial paralysis are direct repair, CFNG, masseteric-to-facial transposition, and free gracilis transfer, while incomplete facial paralysis tends towards masseteric-to-facial nerve transference.

Summary: Masseteric nerve transposition is an effective technique for facial paralysis treatment, but it may not achieve ideal results for patients with heavy faces and complete facial paralysis. In this study, a novel combination of masseteric nerve transposition and tendon sling suspension is proposed to restore both dynamic function and symmetry at rest for these patients.

Summary: It is believed that the image on the Shroud of Turin corresponds to a person who was dead from crucifixion. However, through analyzing the cadaveric data and observing signs of life on the face, it is suggested that the image might represent a living person, possibly in the process of getting up. The findings also align with the events described in the Gospels regarding Jesus' death and resurrection.

Summary: This study compares the differences in development and behavior of breast implant capsules among the major types and textures of implants available on the market. Implants with highly textured surfaces showed the highest levels of collagen and cellularity in the capsules. Nanotextured and microtextured implants were less susceptible to developing capsular contracture compared to smooth implants. The findings emphasize the importance of the implant surface in the development of capsule-related pathologies.
