Summary: In this study, a microstructured in-fiber optofluidic SERS sensor is proposed for the initial detection of uremia by detecting unlabeled urea and creatinine. The self-assembled SERS substrate using silver nanoparticles and graphene oxide sheets successfully enhances Raman signals. Experimental results demonstrate good detection performance for urea and creatinine under simulated conditions.

Summary: Arrestins are a small family of proteins found in most vertebrates, binding to a variety of G protein-coupled receptors and playing key roles in preventing further receptor-G protein coupling, promoting receptor internalization, and initiating specific signaling pathways. Research on the molecular mechanisms of arrestin-GPCR interactions has focused on arrestin elements in receptor binding, but further investigations are needed on the receptor elements involved in arrestin binding to fill existing knowledge gaps. Understanding how receptor elements activate arrestin and contribute to high-affinity binding is crucial for developing arrestin mutants with desired functional characteristics.

Summary: The study successfully prepared cod protein-curcumin composite particles using the pH-shift method, and found that pH 10 is the critical pH for cod protein structure unfolding. The results showed that cod protein treated at the critical pH could encapsulate more curcumin, leading to an increased encapsulation efficiency. The study indicated that the critical pH is necessary for improving the encapsulation effect.

Summary: Protein corona formation is a major obstacle in achieving the desired efficacy of nanomedicine, as proteins interacting with nanoparticle surfaces undergo structural and biological changes. However, nanoparticles also exhibit anti-amyloidogenic behavior, preventing alterations in their native structure, posing a paradox that requires further investigation.

Summary: Dynamic allosteric regulation refers to a type of regulation that does not involve noticeable conformational changes. By developing a unified anisotropic elastic network model, the contribution of pure dynamic allosteric regulation was quantitatively estimated. The study found that pure dynamic allosteric regulation has a generally small contribution, which decays exponentially with the distance between the substrate and the allosteric ligand. Toy models were also used to analyze the factors determining dynamic allosteric regulation in proteins.

Summary: This paper introduces a gel-based 3D substrate for enhanced SERS detection by utilizing photonic nanojets (PNJs). The porous structure of the gel-based substrate allows small molecules to diffuse, while silica beads on the surface generate PNJs during SERS measurements. By coating the substrate with a close-packed array of silica beads, multiple PNJs can be generated, resulting in significantly enhanced Raman signals and improved detection sensitivity. This enhancement scheme can be applied to achieve high-sensitivity SERS detection for various molecules in diverse applications.

Summary: Small molecules that regulate protein-protein interactions have potential as valuable drugs. In this study, we propose that modulating the conformational ensemble of the proteins involved in an interaction can interfere with protein-protein interactions. We applied this concept to P-cadherin and found that a small molecule inhibitor modulates the conformational ensemble of P-cadherin, resulting in the inhibition of cell adhesion.

Summary: In this study, the interaction between silver ions (Ag+) and serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) was investigated and its impact on the adhesion of Escherichia coli and macrophages to biomaterial surfaces was explored. The results suggested that the presence of Ag+ altered the secondary structure of IgG and changed its role from promotion to inhibition in bacterial and macrophage adhesion. These findings provide insights into the interactions between Ag+ and IgG for the rational design of antibacterial biomaterials.

Summary: Linuron, a commonly used organic herbicide, was studied using NMR and Raman spectroscopic techniques to investigate its conformational behavior and electronic aspects. The SERS technique with gold nanoparticles was implemented for concentration monitoring, successfully enhancing the Raman responses of four vibrational modes. Simulations predicted that the most pronounced binding of linuron with gold nanoclusters occurs at the benzene ring.
