Summary: In this study, a strategy adapted to space experimentation was developed to detect amino acid-like compounds using GC-MS. The optimized derivatization methods meet the design constraints of extraterrestrial experiments. The combination of fast selective extraction and GC analysis enables efficient detection of organic materials. In the future, the corresponding GC-MS TIC could be used for simple and fast selection of sediments/dust samples onboard rovers equipped with GC-MS for sample return-to-Earth missions.

Summary: In this study, porous electrospun microfibers (PEMFs) with high specific surface area and large pore size were prepared using coaxial ultrasonic water vapor spraying, and successfully applied as adsorbents for solid phase extraction (SPE). By utilizing ultra-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detector, five fluoroquinolones were extracted and quantified from water, egg, and milk samples.

Summary: Graphene-based materials are increasingly utilized in novel nanomedicine technologies due to their large contact and loading surfaces as well as high sensitivities to chemical changes. The study on biomolecule-monolayer graphene-kidney tissue hybrid structures revealed a double-sided graphene-enhanced Raman scattering effect and efficient autofluorescence quenching caused by graphene on kidney tissue emissions. These phenomena can be explained by molecular structure and energy level alignment, leading to effective charge transfer.

Summary: Forging new C(sp(3))-C(sp(3)) bonds to central positions within a peptide backbone is achieved by using electron-donor-acceptor complexes between Hantzsch ester and on-resin peptide N-hydroxyphthalimide radical precursors. The feasibility of this method is demonstrated through two-carbon homologations and homologation cyclizations of Atosiban and RGDf.

Summary: A nitrocellulose-graphene oxide hybrid was prepared by modifying commercially nitrocellulose (NC) membrane with graphene oxide (GO) microparticles, and it was used for oligonucleotide extraction. The modification of NC membrane was confirmed by FTIR and SEM analysis. The NC-GO hybrid membranes exhibited lower hydrophilic behavior compared to the NC control membranes, and they were able to efficiently extract short oligonucleotides from complex solutions.

Summary: This research demonstrates the compatibility of photochemistry with solid-phase peptide synthesis, using photochemical hydroalkylation to form C(sp(3))-C(sp(3)) bonds on resin. High yields were achieved using iridium-based photocatalysts and Hantszch ester, with full conversions within 30 minutes under ambient conditions. The chemistry is compatible with a broad range of peptide side chains, redox-active esters, and resin, representing the first example of photochemical peptide modifications on resin.

Summary: An efficient MOF-801/GO sorbent was fabricated and utilized for the detection of OSPs using GC-FPD. The proposed SPE method showed a linear dynamic range of 0.5-300 mu g L-1 and a detection limit of 0.1-1.1 mu g L-1 for OSP samples. The application of the MOF-801/GO sorbent in dSPE of OSP analytes proved to be a reliable and sensitive methodology for pesticides monitoring in various environmental samples.

Summary: Fipronil, a commonly used insecticide in agriculture, can potentially enter the food chain and pose health risks. This study developed a molecularly imprinted polymer-based method for the targeted determination of fipronil in milk samples. The optimal experimental conditions were determined using response surface methodology, and the MIP was characterized using various techniques. The method showed selective determination of fipronil with high recovery and low detection limit.

Summary: This study investigates the binding process of Na+ ions to the Na1 and Na3 sites in glutamate transporters and their roles in protein conformational changes. The results show that Na+ binding to the Na3 site is crucial for triggering the structural switch, while Na+ binding to the Na1 site partially opens the gate. Complete gate opening requires Na+ binding to both Na1 and Na3 sites. Additionally, an alternative pathway for the coupled binding of Na+ and aspartate is proposed.

Summary: Graphene, known for its outstanding properties, can be prepared as chiral graphene by transferring chiral structural conformation onto its basal plane through pi-pi interaction and thermal fusion. The high concentration of molecular imprints on the basal plane allows for electrochemical enantioselective recognition, suggesting potential applications in chirality-related studies and other two-dimensional materials.
