Summary: This study investigated the association between family history of breast cancer (FHBC) and mammographic breast density in premenopausal women. The results showed a positive correlation between FHBC and breast density, suggesting a heritable component of mammographic breast density. This highlights the importance of early annual screening for premenopausal women with a family history of breast cancer.

Summary: Hypothalamic inflammation plays a crucial role in aging and age-related diseases in rodents. This study assessed hypothalamic inflammation in humans using PET and found a different pattern of inflammation compared to rodents. Specifically, age-correlated hypothalamic inflammation was observed only in women, which may be relevant to understanding menopause and reproductive aging in women.

Summary: There has been a significant amount of research focused on female-specific risk factors and sex differences in stroke in the past year. This article summarizes several novel studies that provide new knowledge about stroke in women. The studies discussed in the article include the association between endometriosis and future stroke, the relationship between hysterectomy, oophorectomy, and stroke, the impact of oral contraceptive and hormone replacement therapy on stroke, and the question of whether sex differences exist in the presentation of stroke symptoms.

Summary: This study examined the attitudes of Cambodian women towards menopause and its associated factors. The findings showed that most women had negative attitudes towards menopause, with perimenopausal women having more negative attitudes and postmenopausal women having more positive attitudes. Older age and employment were found to be independent factors associated with positive attitudes.

Summary: Soybeans and related products are nutritious and may benefit human health due to the presence of isoflavones. However, the effects of isoflavones on humans are still inconclusive. Further research is needed to explore the processing of soybeans, the types of isoflavones, and their potential health benefits.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between dietary consumption of various nutrients and headaches in middle-aged women. It found that higher intake of isoflavones was associated with a lower frequency of headaches in peri- and post-menopausal women, suggesting that a diet rich in isoflavones may help improve headaches in middle-aged women.

Summary: The study conducted a metagenomic analysis of the vaginal microbiota in Algerian women, revealing distinct patterns during reproductive and postreproductive phases. Hormone levels were found to correlate with changes in microbial composition in menopausal women. The study also identified a unique microbiota profile dominated by CST III and CST I in Algerian women, and a rapid qPCR method was developed for customized gynecological management based on this information.

Summary: This narrative review examines the theories behind the heightened risk for psychosis in midlife women and looks at the potential role of ovarian hormones. Studies indicate that the peak ages of midlife psychosis risk in women overlap with the age range of key menopausal stages, especially the perimenopausal transition. However, there is a lack of direct research on menopausal stage. Studies on ovarian hormone effects have mostly focused on earlier developmental stages and events, showing increases in psychotic symptoms during periods of lower estradiol levels. Future research is needed to fill the gaps in our knowledge.

Summary: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic and systemic inflammation, affecting multiple organ systems, showing a strong female predominance and potentially leading to earlier menopause, increasing cardiovascular and osteoporotic risks. There is currently limited knowledge on strategies for mitigating the increased risk faced by women with SLE during the menopausal transition.
