Summary: The feasibility and acceptability of handgrip strength measurement in digestive cancer outpatients was assessed in the FIGHTDIGO study, aiming to evaluate the relationship between muscle strength and functional/nutritional markers in this population. Results showed a significant association between handgrip strength and BMI/nutritional status, while dynapenia was only linked to functional impairment.

Summary: The study reveals that over half of hospitalized older adults are at risk of malnutrition or malnourished, and the majority of older inpatients have poor physical performance. Handgrip strength and SPPB are recommended as alternative measures of muscle mass for malnutrition management in this population.

Summary: Three years after hospital treatment for severe restrictive anorexia nervosa, most patients were recovered or in partial remission, but still had subnormal values of body fat and skeletal muscle mass. Energy and micronutrient intakes were insufficient, highlighting the importance of regular nutritional assessment and counseling during recovery.

Summary: The study investigated the potential correlation between nutritional status and polypharmacy, cognitive decline, and functional performance in institutionalized elders, finding a significant positive association between appropriate nutritional status and physical abilities, which can help prevent cognitive and functional decline. Nutritional status assessment is crucial for preventing health issues and implementing early intervention programs to avoid health decline.

Summary: We compared the changes in strength and muscle mass between stronger and weaker older women in response to resistance training. The study found that both groups showed similar gains in muscle mass and upper-limb strength, but weaker women experienced greater improvements in lower-limb strength. This suggests that older women, regardless of their initial strength levels, can benefit from resistance training for muscle and strength gains.

Summary: Malnutrition is common in CHF patients and is associated with disease severity. Objective markers of strength and muscle are independently linked to CHF severity, even after adjusting for other factors. Early nutritional assessment through methods like SGA, HGS, and APMT may help detect malnutrition and prevent further functional decline.

Summary: The study found that elderly individuals with normal grip strength had higher serum albumin levels and lower urine protein/creatinine ratios. Grip strength was positively correlated with serum albumin and urine creatinine levels. Proper dietary nutritional intake and maintaining renal function are important factors in preventing frailty among the elderly population in Taiwan.

Summary: This study evaluated the healthcare costs related to post-stroke oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) and its complications, finding that patients with OD incurred higher costs during hospitalization, at 3-month follow-up, and at 12-month follow-up. Additionally, the development of malnutrition and respiratory infections significantly increased long-term costs for patients with OD.

Summary: This study investigated the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among 2455 healthcare workers in June and October 2020, and April and November 2021. The results showed that the seropositivity for SARS-CoV-2 increased from 11.8% in June 2020 to 28.4% in November 2021. Close contact with COVID-19 cases without protection and working in the frontline were identified as the main risk factors. Additionally, vaccination led to a decrease in antibody levels, and some vaccinated individuals tested negative for spike protein antibodies in November 2021.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the efficiency of healthcare interventions in post-stroke oropharyngeal dysphagia (PS-OD) management. The findings suggest that screening and diagnosis of PS-OD can adjust and reduce hospitalization costs, while OD management after thrombolysis may not significantly reduce hospitalization costs. Videofluoroscopy is found to be the most cost-effective screening method. Rehabilitation programs and home enteral nutrition are also shown to be cost-effective. However, further evaluation and research on novel strategies are still needed.

Summary: This study assessed socioeconomic and depression-related risk factors for frailty in depressed older adults. The results showed that age, gender, osteoarthritis, pain, depressive symptom severity, low educational level, and low-income level were risk factors for frailty. The study also found that the severity of depressive symptoms had the highest independent effect on frailty in depressed older adults.
