Summary: The study demonstrated the effectiveness of utilizing two formulations of poly(lipoic acid)-based nanoparticles (NPs) in combating radical damage and ROS formation in various cell types. Results indicate that NPs could effectively protect against myocardial cell damage induced by ischemic reperfusion injury.

Summary: This study found that alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) attenuates myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury by regulating the HMGB1/TLR4/NF-Kappa B signaling pathway, thereby inhibiting apoptosis, oxidation, and inflammation.

Summary: This study evaluated the combined effects of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) and ischemic postconditioning (Post) on myocardial infarction and cell death in rats with chronic type-II diabetes following ischemia/reperfusion injury. The results showed that the concomitant use of ALA and Post significantly reduced apoptosis and improved cardiac recovery after heart injury in diabetic conditions.

Summary: This review provides a comprehensive summary of the design and development of lipoic acid (LA) and its derived materials for biomedical applications. It covers the therapeutic use of LA, synthesis and preclinical study of LA-derived small molecules, and applications of various LA and poly(lipoic acid)-derived biomaterials. The authors believe that this review will promote the further discovery of new therapeutic uses of LA and facilitate the development of LA-based derivatives with greater performance for biomedical applications.

Summary: Convergent routes to 1,3-dithian-2-ones are described in this study, which are based on the radical addition of xanthates to alkenes with a suitably located leaving group. The resulting products can be converted into 1,2-dithiolanes through base-mediated hydrolysis and oxidation. This method allows for the introduction of various functional groups, uses inexpensive starting materials and reagents, and is atom economical.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury on the miR-23a/TGF-beta-activated kinase 1 binding protein 3 (TAB3)/nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kappa B)/p53 axis in rat hippocampus and evaluates the impact of chlorogenic acid (CGA) on these molecular changes. The results suggest that the miR-23b/TAB3/NF-kappa B/p53 axis may play a regulatory role in hippocampal cell death, and CGA can effectively reduce hippocampal apoptotic damage.

Summary: The study demonstrates that recombinant acid ceramidase has therapeutic potential in hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury in mice, reducing damage and decreasing oxidative stress and inflammation. Changes in sphingolipid metabolism play a crucial role in the injury, and administration of acid ceramidase can alter sphingolipid levels and other pathologic changes.

Summary: A novel polymerizable and dynamic deep eutectic solvent (DES) comprising choline chloride and α-lipoic acid is introduced. Through thermally-initiated ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic disulfide and multiple dynamic interactions (disulfide, hydrogen, and coordination bonds), multifunctional ionogels with excellent comprehensive properties are developed and investigated for their potential as flexible conductors.

Summary: The age-related sensors SIRT1 and SIRT3 play a crucial role in the protective response during myocardial ischemia and reperfusion. Defects in cardiac SIRT1 or SIRT3 in aged hearts result in worsened cardiac deterioration and failed recovery after acute ischemic stress and reperfusion. SIRT1 translocates into mitochondria and recruits more SIRT3, enhancing their interaction and providing adaptive protection against mitochondria dysfunction. SIRT1 also maintains mitochondrial integrity through SIRT3-mediated substrate metabolism during acute ischemic and reperfusion stress.
