Lack of 1-3-B-D-glucan detection in adults with bacteraemia

Bacteraemia was reported to be associated with false-positive 1 -> 3-beta-D-glucan (BG) assay results. We thus prospectively assessed the reactivity of the BG (Fungitell) in samples of 21 adults with bacteraemia. BG was negative in all and is s therefore an unlikely cause of false positive BG in adults.
