The contribution of twinning and slip to the evolution of texture and microstructure during large strain hot rolling of magnesium alloy ME20 was investigated using X-ray and EBSD analysis. The results indicate that a very sharp basal texture formed with initial basal texture (type 1), and the texture intensity increases with rising of the deformation amount. The lattice reorientation of 86 degrees caused by tension twinning has a large influence on the deformation behavior in the incipient stage with initial off-basal texture samples (types 2 and 3). At heavy deformation, basal and prismatic < a > slip systems as well as shear bands are active. The texture simulation was performed using a grain interaction Taylor model, based on different combinations of four slip modes and one twinning mode. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
