Boron nitride whiskers with diameter and aspect ratio of 2-3 mm and 40-100 respectively were prepared by calcining the whisker precursors, which were synthesised via the reaction of melamine (C3N6H6) with boric acid (H3BO3) in a water bath. The influence of C3N6H6/H3BO3 molar ratio and solution concentration on the morphology of the boron nitride whisker precursors was investigated. The precursors and synthesised whiskers were characterised by SEM, XRD and FTIR respectively.
