Summary: Nanostructured graphene has been widely studied in recent years due to its tunable electronic properties for various fields. However, exposure of (3,1)-chiral graphene nanoribbons to oxidizing environments significantly oxidizes the ribbons and disrupts their electronic properties. Experiments show that even under gentle conditions, the ribbons are oxidized, providing insights into the reaction sites and defects caused by oxygen.

Summary: In this study, an in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) heating system was used to investigate the morphological changes of cubic Ag nanoparticles (NPs) and Ag-based core-shell structures induced by sublimation, as well as the influence of shell coverage on thermal stability. It was found that large Ag NPs (>50 nm) showed a three-stage sublimation-induced morphological change, while small Ag NPs (<30 nm) showed a uniform sublimation. The sublimation process of core-shell NPs started at stage II, and the thermal stability was enhanced by carbon shell passivation.

Summary: X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy confirmed the self-assembly of functional monomer 10-MDP into nano-layers at adhesive-tooth interfaces, which contribute to the mechanical strength of adhesives. Focused-ion-beam milled cross sections and scanning probe microscopy were used to observe and evaluate the 3-dimensional spreading and mechanical properties of nano-layering. The formation of self-assembled nano-layering strengthens the adhesives and may improve the clinical longevity of the bond to dentin.

Summary: The study investigates the shape, composition, and surface chemistry of Pt-Zn nanoparticles obtained by reduction in oleylamine, with the addition of phenyl ether or benzyl ether influencing the composition and shape. After washing with ethanol, the particles are coated with oleylamine and oxidation products, and upon exposure to air, they oxidize and form a discontinuous ZnO film. Pt-Zn particles are unstable and prone to losing Zn due to preferential oxidation of the less noble metal.

Summary: In this study, vertically aligned multiwall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) films were used as support for ZnO/ZnS photocatalytic active nanostructures. The CNTs were synthesized using a hot-filament chemical vapor deposition (HfCVD) method. Point defects in the CNTs outer walls were created using a low pressure nonthermal water vapors diffusive plasma, and Zn nanoparticles were subsequently electrodeposited onto the CNTs. The samples were annealed to obtain ZnO, ZnS, and a mix phase of ZnO/ZnS. The absorption of ZnO was enhanced by S doping and involvement of CNTs, and the ZnO1-xSx@CNTs heteronanostructure showed the highest photocatalytic activity for methyl blue dye degradation among the studied samples.

Summary: This study focuses on manganese doped CdS thin films synthesized by chemical bath deposition. The incorporation of Mn2+ cations in CdS was found to influence the crystalline structure, morphology, and optoelectronic properties. Doped thin films exhibited a uniform hexagonal structure, changed growth orientation, and showed scale-like and needle-like morphologies. The bandgap and rectification speed of Schottky diodes were modified by introducing manganese. This study suggests the potential for affordable high-speed optoelectronic devices.

Summary: This study focuses on the corrosion characteristics of AA 7075 and AA 7075 based hybrid composite fabricated using stir casting and hot rolling techniques. The results show that the hybrid composite produced by hot cross rolling exhibits better corrosion resistance compared to the base metal. The addition of a small amount of graphite improves the bonding between the matrix and reinforcements, and the hot cross rolling enhances this bonding, leading to the formation of a strong passivation oxide layer and increased charge transfer resistance, thereby improving corrosion resistance.
