Characterizations of layered MoO3 host with interlayer polyaniline (PANI) and poly(o-anisidine) (PoANIS), i.e. (PANI)(x)MoO3 and (PoANIS)(x)MoO3, respectively, have been carried out by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared (IR) spectra, thermogravimetry (TG), and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analyses. The guest organic components, i.e. PANI and PoANIS, are accommodated into MoO3 interlayers by ion-exchange process. From these detailed characterization studies, it is found that the interlayer PANI and PoANIS chains have neutralized units as well as cationic units. Moreover, the (PANI)(x)MoO3 and (PoANIS)(x)MoO3 hybrids have enough interlayer spaces due to almost perpendicular orientation of benzene ring into PANI and PoANIS chains to the MoO3 layer.
