Translucent MgAl2O4 was prepared by combustion synthesis melt-casting under high gravity. Compared with common gravitational condition, under high-gravity condition the separation between ceramic and metal melts was accelerated, and thus the content of residual Ni in MgAl2O4 ingot was reduced. By the incorporation of SiO2 or Si-Na-Ca-Mg-O glass additives, residual Ni was eliminated and single-phase MgAl2O4 was obtained. On the other hand, the incorporation of the additives was helpful to produce a more homogeneous microstructure.
