Summary: The vaquita is the most critically endangered marine mammal, with fewer than 19 remaining in the wild. Research has shown that its genome has a stable historical population size and low heterozygosity, potentially allowing for the purging of highly deleterious alleles and maintaining the necessary diversity for population health.

Summary: This study analyzed the genome sequences of the vaquita porpoise in Mexico and simulated the species' recovery potential. The research found that the vaquita's historical rarity reduced the risk of inbreeding depression, and it can recover if gillnet fishing is immediately halted.

Summary: Knowing the abundance of a population is crucial for assessing its conservation status and developing effective conservation plans. This study estimated the abundance of the Baltic Proper harbour porpoise for the first time through passive acoustic monitoring and found that it is critically endangered. Immediate and efficient conservation actions through international cooperation are urgently needed.

Summary: According to recent research, the population of Mexico's endemic vaquita porpoise is still declining, but the latest survey shows that there are still about 10 adult vaquitas remaining, including calves. Experts speculate that these surviving vaquitas may have learned to avoid gillnet entanglement. However, illegal gillnetting still persists, and the survival of vaquitas can only be ensured by establishing gillnet-free habitats.

Summary: This study highlights the importance of constructing habitats that mimic natural forms for species conservation in water-limited ecosystems. It also emphasizes the need for more research on assessing population abundance in degraded and restored habitats, as well as the differences in survey and statistical methods.

Summary: Long-term monitoring of loggerhead turtles on Cirali Beach provided reliable data on nesting and hatching activities, revealing interannual variation in clutch size and hatching success. The study also showed a stable incubation period and an upward trend in nesting population size. Presently, the estimated number of female loggerhead turtles on Cirali Beach is 96.

Summary: Using passive acoustic monitoring and convolutional neural networks, the movements of two endangered Amazon River dolphin species were monitored, and their presence was detected in different areas based on echolocation clicks classification. Boat passages were automatically detected to investigate the interaction between boats and dolphins. High performance of the CNN classifier was achieved in classifying both echolocation clicks and boats. The research provided new insights into the river dolphins' use of varzea habitats, contributing to conservation strategies.

Summary: Passive Acoustic Monitoring shows potential for biodiversity assessment and species conservation, with the robustness of community metrics depending on sampling effort. An acoustic survey of bat assemblages in France found that the level of confidence in community metrics varied with sampling duration, habitats, and seasons. Recommendations were made for context-dependent minimum sampling duration and the use of weighted community indices when resources are limited.

Summary: Widespread soil resistance poses a serious threat to sustainable food production and soil health. Conservation tillage is a promising practice that improves soil structure and health. This study investigates the impact of long-term no-tillage on the accumulation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in agricultural soils. The results show that no-tillage significantly reduces the relative abundance of ARGs and antibiotic target gene families in the soil, indicating that long-term no-tillage practices inhibit the accumulation of ARGs in farmland soil.

Summary: Visual line transect (VLT) surveys and passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) are important methods for monitoring and studying marine mammals. This study presents a framework to combine these data streams to estimate abundance and derive an estimate of availability bias. Three methods were evaluated and the results showed that the CMR-DS method was the least biased and most precise.

Summary: Habitat specialists are at high risk of extinction when there are alterations in their habitat conditions. This study focuses on the habitat use of the Endangered volcano rabbit, and identifies factors such as vegetation cover, rock cover, cattle grazing, and human settlements that influence its presence and abundance. The protection of mountain grasslands is crucial for the conservation of this species.

Summary: Anthropogenic underwater noise has a negative impact on whale habitats and poses a threat to the recovery of endangered species. Various measures have been implemented in the St. Lawrence Estuary to address the cohabitation of whales and vessels, including the use of marine spatial planning to protect and restore key habitat areas and reduce noise pollution.
