Summary: The interaction between nanomaterials and biology plays a crucial role in the biological behavior and fate of nanoparticles. However, it has been challenging to analyze the transport and transformation of nanomedicines in real-time and label-free. The advancements in advanced light source (ALS) technologies offer new opportunities for studying the behavior and fate of nanomedicines in vivo.

Summary: The text discusses the ill-posed problem of phase retrieval in optics and the use of discrete mathematics to improve the accuracy of algorithms for propagation-based phase-contrast X-ray imaging. Experimental measurements show that detectors with single pixel PSF characteristics can significantly improve spatial resolution by up to 17%.

Summary: The cochlea, as a complex structure deeply embedded in the temporal bone, has been difficult to investigate using traditional imaging methods. In order to develop technology for restoring hearing, quantitative information on cochlear dimensions and sensorineural status is crucial. By employing X-ray phase-contrast tomography and light-sheet fluorescence microscopy, researchers provided a systematic reference for designing cochlear implants for rodent and nonhuman primate models. Simulation showed a spatially narrow optogenetic excitation of spiral ganglion neurons in reconstructed nonhuman primate cochleas.

Summary: Meteorite samples that land on earth provide important information about asteroids and meteors in space. This study used 3D x-ray tomography, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive spectroscopy to analyze the microstructure, elemental composition, and mechanical properties of the Aba Panu meteorite. The results contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the formation history and characteristics of the meteorite.

Summary: The study analyzed the influence of source coherence on the spatial resolution of zone plates and found that increasing the coherence length improves resolution but leads to diffraction peaks at the focal plane. Decreasing the sizes of central stop and OSA can enhance SNR but reduce photon flux. By optimizing the exit slit size, spatial resolution and flux can be balanced.

Summary: We present a computational light-sheet microscope that enables hyperspectral acquisition at high spectral resolution. By focusing the emitted fluorescence light onto the entrance slit of an imaging spectrometer using a cylindrical lens, and illuminating the specimen with a sequence of structured light patterns to capture the spatial dimension orthogonal to the slit, we demonstrate the feasibility of this method and report the initial results in vivo using hydra specimens labeled with two fluorophores.

Summary: Researchers have used concepts from the multifractal theory to understand changes in soil systems under different management practices. This study applied three-dimensional multifractal theory, lacunarity, and normalized Shannon entropy to characterize changes in the porous system of a Rhodic Hapludox under different management practices. The results showed differences between management groups, indicating possible soil degradation under conventional and minimum tillage. Linear correlations were found between soil porosity and lacunarities, maximum normalized Shannon entropy, and multifractal spectra. The study highlights the potential and sensitivity of the 3D multifractal approach in characterizing and differentiating complexity in soil management practices.

Summary: Light-sheet fluorescent microscopy (LSFM) is the leading technique for in vivo imaging in the fields of disease, medicine, and cell biology research. This study demonstrates the successful integration of a nanophotonic meta-lens as the illumination component for LSFM, addressing the challenges of high image resolution and optical sectioning. With the meta-lens, the LSFM system complexity is significantly reduced, enabling multicolor fluorescent imaging of live biological specimens with cellular resolution.

Summary: This study aims to characterize and analyze synthetic carbonate rocks using microtomography and petrography techniques, specifically focusing on a comparative analysis before and after degradation caused by a reactive fluid. The results showed an increase in intergranular and intragranular porosities after dissolution, quantified by microtomography analysis. The technique also provided insights into the preferred paths of fluid flow based on pore orientation data. The study highlights the importance of such analyses in understanding the mechanical and physical risks associated with mineral dissolution and changes in pressure, temperature, and saturation in reservoir rocks.

Summary: Research shows that digitally scanned Airy beams can improve the throughput rates in Raman imaging by an order of magnitude compared to traditional diffraction-limited beams, achieving high contrast and 1 micron axial resolution for three-dimensional imaging of microparticles. This method also achieves orders of magnitude lower irradiation density than coherent Raman imaging schemes, with faster speed and lower phototoxicity.
