This review discusses the isolation, structural elucidation, and biological activities of halogenated indole alkaloids obtained from marine invertebrates. Meridianins and related compounds (variolins, psammopemmins, and aplicyanins), as well as aplysinopsins and leptoclinidamines, are focused on. A compilation of the C-13-NMR spectral data of these selected natural indole alkaloids is also provided.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the preparation of poly-epsilon-caprolactone nanoparticles can achieve slow release of lignan dinitrohinokinin, with smaller diameter nanocapsules with negative surface charge providing good stability. In in vivo experiments, nanoencapsulated dinitrohinokinin significantly reduced the number of Schistosoma mansoni in the liver and spleen.

Summary: Drug delivery systems are technologies that have been extensively studied and applied to enhance the application of existing drugs and improve the bioavailability of compounds of interest. This study successfully incorporated betulinic acid (BA) into mesoporous silica materials and investigated the characteristics and release mechanisms of the nanoparticles. The results demonstrate the potential use of these nanoparticles in drug delivery systems.

Summary: This study demonstrates the analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties of hydroalcoholic extracts from the Handroanthus impetiginosus plant, commonly known as 'Ipe roxo' in Brazil. The extracts showed significant anti-inflammatory activity in mice and potent analgesic action in a hot plate test. Analysis of the extracts identified various metabolites, indicating their potential as complementary herbal medicine for pain and inflammation disorders.

Summary: Neglected tropical diseases are a major cause of death and disability in developing countries. This study aimed to identify the major constituents of Capsicum frutescens and Capsicum baccatum fruit extracts and evaluate their schistosomicidal, leishmanicidal, and trypanocidal activities. The results showed that C. frutescens extracts had better activity, possibly due to higher concentrations of capsaicin (1). Capsaicin (1) exhibited significant trypanocidal activity with an IC50 value of 6.23 mu M, suggesting it as a potential active constituent.
