Objective: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare but severe manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) that can ultimately result in death. The identification of factors that prognosticate survival in SLE-PH is necessary for appropriate monitoring, timing of therapeutics and lung transplantation. The primary objective of this study was to identify prognostic factors for survival in SLE-PH through review of the literature. The methodological quality of the prognostic studies was also evaluated. Methods: A systematic review of the literature was performed to identify studies evaluating prognostic factors for survival in SLE-PH. Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials (inception - week 2 2010) were searched. A standardized abstraction form was used by two independent reviewers to extract prognostic factors. Methodological quality was evaluated using a validated quality index. Results: Twenty-three observational studies from 375 citations were evaluated. Elevated mean pulmonary artery pressure, Raynaud's phenomenon, thrombocytopenia, plexiform lesion, infection, thrombosis, pregnancy, pulmonary vasculitis and anticardiolipin antibodies were associated with decreased survival. Lupus disease activity, nephritis and central nervous system disease were not associated with survival. The sample sizes were small and methodological quality of the studies was variable. Conclusion: This study summarizes factors that may be associated with decreased survival in SLE-PH. The small sample sizes and variable methodological quality preclude definitive conclusions. This study provides the groundwork for further research using large cohorts. Lupus (2012) 21, 353 364.

Nursing, psychotherapy and advanced cancer: A scoping review

Argin Malakian, Shan Mohammed, Rouhi Fazelzad, Rand Ajaj, Angelina Artemenko, Samantha J. Mayo

Summary: Many studies did not mention the role of nursing in this area, while some mentioned a non-interventionist role for nurses in the research study. A few studies highlighted nurses as interventionists/psychotherapists, focusing on feasibility, acceptability, and patient-related outcomes of brief psychotherapies. The limited discussion on nursing's ability to deliver psychotherapies to adults with advanced cancer points to a gap in the research that needs to be addressed.

Secondary cytoreductive surgery for recurrent low-grade serous ovarian carcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Rebecca M. Goldberg, Soyoun Rachel Kim, Rouhi Fazelzad, Xuan Li, Theodore J. Brown, Taymaa May

Summary: Complete SCS and SCS with no residual disease are associated with improved PFS and OS in patients with recurrent LGSC. SCS may be a better initial treatment strategy than systemic chemotherapy, with disease distribution and functional status taken into account for evaluation. Prospective studies are needed to further explore the role of SCS in patients with recurrent LGSC.

Prognostic Value of Programmed Death Ligand-1 Expression in Solid Tumors Irrespective of Immunotherapy Exposure: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Ramy R. Saleh, Jordan L. Scott, Nicholas Meti, Danielle Perlon, Rouhi Fazelzad, Alberto Ocana, Eitan Amir

Summary: High expression of PD-L1 is associated with worse prognosis in solid tumors with significant heterogeneity among tumor types. The effect is consistent in early-stage and metastatic disease and is not sensitive to the method of PD-L1 quantification. This data can provide additional information for counseling cancer patients about prognosis.

Palliative care for people who use drugs during communicable disease epidemics and pandemics: A scoping review on access, policies, and programs and guidelines

Daniel Z. Buchman, Samantha Lo, Philip Ding, Naheed Dosani, Rouhi Fazelzad, Andrea D. Furlan, Sarina R. Isenberg, Sheryl Spithoff, Alissa Tedesco, Camilla Zimmermann, Jenny Lau

Summary: This scoping review explores the impact of communicable disease epidemics and pandemics on palliative care for people who use drugs. The findings indicate limited knowledge about palliative care for this population during epidemics and pandemics other than HIV/AIDS. Further research is needed to provide optimal palliative care for people who use drugs during future epidemics and pandemics, along with suggestions for better preparedness.

The Experience of Informal Newcomer Cancer Caregivers with Limited Language Proficiency: A Scoping Review

Mijia Murong, Eleni Giannopoulos, Lorraine Pirrie, Meredith Elana Giuliani, Rouhi Fazelzad, Jacqueline Bender, Jennifer Jones, Janet Papadakos

Summary: This scoping review examined the experiences of informal cancer caregivers (CGs) who are newcomers with limited language proficiency. A comprehensive literature search yielded 11,289 articles, with 57 articles ultimately included. Most studies were qualitative and published in North America. Communication challenges with healthcare professionals were a significant issue for newcomer CGs, exacerbated by a lack of medical interpreters and the complexity of oncology health information. Efforts are needed to integrate newcomer CGs into cancer care.

Summary: Non-V600 mutations account for approximately 35% of all BRAF mutations in cancer and can be classified into three classes. This meta-analysis suggests that MAPK pathway targeted therapy (MAPK TT) has clinical activity in some BRAF-mutant cancers, and the class of BRAF mutation may determine responsiveness to treatment strategies.
