K-RAS gene mutations have been found in 20-30% of non-small cell lung cancer and occur most commonly in adenocarcinoma, however, there was no definitive conclusion about the prognostic role of K-RAS mutations in NSCLC. Herein we performed a systematic review of the literatures with meta-analysis to assess K-RAS mutations' prognostic value in NSCLC. After a methodological assessment, survival data from published studies were aggregated. Combined hazard ratios (HRs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated in terms of overall survival. 41 trials (6939 patients) were included in the analysis, the overall HR was 1.45(95% CI: 1.29-1.62), showing that K-RAS mutations have an unfavorable impact on survival of patients with NSCLC. Then a subgroup analysis was performed about ethnicity, the combined HR was 1.97 (95% CI: 1.58-2.44) for Asians, and 1.37 (95% CI: 1.25-1.5) for non-Asians. In subgroup analysis of histology, the HR was 1.39 (95% CI: 1.24-1.55) for adenocarcinoma, suggesting that K-RAS mutations were correlated with shortened survival for adenocarcinoma. When the subgroup analysis was conducted according to disease stage, K-RAS mutations were poor prognostic factors in early stages: stage I(1.81; 95% CI: 1.36-2.39) and stage I-IIIa (1.68; 95% CI: 1.11-2.55), but not in advanced stage (IIIb-IV) (1.3; 95% CI: 0.99-1.71). At last, in subgroup analysis about test methods, all of the four methods: PCR-MSOP (1.73; 95% CI: 1.35-2.2), PCR-DGGE (1.27; 95% CI: 1.01-1.62), PCR-RFLP (1.88; 95% CI: 1.42-2.49) and PCR-seq (1.34; 95% CI: 1.14-1.58) showed statistically significant impact on survival of NSCLC patients. In conclusion, this meta-analysis suggests that K-RAS mutations are associated with a worse overall survival in patients with NSCLC, especially in patients with adenocarcinoma and early stage. Circ-FAT1 Up-Regulates FOSL2 Expression by Sponging miR-619-5p to Facilitate Colorectal Cancer Progression

Wanli Ma, Zhong Niu, Dongfeng Han, Bingjie Wang, Xiangsheng Wang

Summary: The study revealed that circ-FAT1 plays a crucial role in the development of colorectal cancer and affects malignant phenotypes such as apoptosis, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis in tumor cells through certain mechanisms. Furthermore, circ-FAT1 up-regulated the expression of FOSL2 by acting as a sponge for miR-619-5p. In vivo experiments demonstrated that circ-FAT1 silencing inhibits tumor formation in CRC xenografts.

In vitro biotransformation of tris(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate and triphenyl phosphate by mouse liver microsomes: Kinetics and key CYP isoforms

Mei-Hong Chen, Sheng-Hu Zhang, Shi-Ming Jia, Li-Jun Wang, Wan-Li Ma

Summary: As a result of the phase-out of polybrominated diphenyl ethers, organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) have been widely used as substitutes globally. Recent studies have focused on the absorption, bioaccumulation, metabolism, and internal exposure processes of OPFRs, particularly aryl-OPFRs and Cl-OPFRs. In vitro studies have shown that TDCPP may bio-accumulate more easily in organisms compared to TPhP, with specific CYP450 isoforms identified for their biotransformation. These findings provide new insights into the potential mechanisms of hepatotoxicity induced by OPFRs and the detoxification processes in hepatocytes.

Summary: This study investigated the charge injection and dissipation in graphene oxide/epoxy resin composite using Kelvin probe force microscopy, revealing that charges are more easily injected and dissipated faster in GO/EP composite, with electrons diffusing more rapidly than holes in the material. The faster charge injection and dissipation in GO/EP composite are attributed to the higher conductivity of the GO filler compared to pure epoxy resin.

Summary: This study found that the loading dose of polymyxin B and the combined use of multiple nephrotoxic drugs are independent risk factors for polymyxin B-associated acute kidney injury (AKI). Additionally, the estimated glomerular filtration rate has a protective effect on the occurrence of AKI.

Responses of nitrogen removal under microplastics versus nanoplastics stress in SBR: Toxicity, microbial community and functional genes

Chun-shuang Zhou, Ji-wen Wu, Wan-li Ma, Bing-feng Liu, De-feng Xing, Shan-shan Yang, Guang-li Cao

Summary: This study investigated the effects of microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) on nitrogen removal by activated sludge. The results showed that NPs had a negative impact on NH4+-N removal efficiency and caused the accumulation of NO3--N and NO2--N. The toxic effects of NPs were reflected by the increasing reactive oxygen species generation and lactate dehydrogenase release. Furthermore, NPs reduced the relative abundance of nitrifiers and denitrifiers, leading to a decrease in nitrogen removal efficiency.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze clinical information and create a predictive model to better predict the prognosis of MDA5(+) DM-ILD. Factors associated with poor prognosis included older age, CADM, short duration of illness, fever, dyspnea, and multiple abnormal clinical and laboratory findings. Duration of illness, fever, presence of pleural effusion, high CT scores, and elevated AST were identified as independent predictors of poor prognosis in MDA5(+) DM-ILD. The nomogram model was shown to have high predictive accuracy in assessing the risk of death in these patients.
